Ezra's top 10 observations from tonight's leaders debate

Did you watch the foreign policy debate hosted by the Munk Centre tonight? It was pretty good — all three party leaders were on their game.

Oddly, the CBC refused to broadcast the debate — strange, given their public mandate, and the $1 billion in taxpayer funds they get each year.

Ezra watched the debate, and made a list of ten moments that caught his attention — from Thomas Mulcair’s witty barbs against Justin Trudeau; to Trudeau’s love-letter to his father; to Stephen Harper playing the grown-up on everything from the environment to Canada-U.S. relations.

Exactly. I have done that multiple time and a variety of sites and it is the same, either crickets or they reply with an answers like “I shouldn’t have to tell you.” or “Everything!” or “He’s the worst PM ever!” or “Bill C51”, but never any reasons not explanations, and that includes our resident leftie trolls on this site. I watched CBC for many years with my family and then I joined the military at 18, that is when I started to travel the world and I actually saw the outright mis-truths the CBC were telling. This is not rhetoric like what you said but observation and fact, when I am in a country and know first hand what happen and then turn on the CBC you would see a totally different biased story. Many of the older population have seen this and are sickened that the national broadcaster is a biased liberal machine and want this institution (asylum) de-funded as they are not for the people but for a party. I am not paying taxes to support an arm of the socialist party, I invite you to take your rose colored glasses off and actually pay attention to the news from all sources, digest that information and come away with what YOU think, not what the CBC want you to think, we are not sheep so please get informed and stop with the socialist rhetoric.

Beyond that, Furey’s observations seem to concur with many here in terms of how rather shallow and sophomoric Justin’s performance really was and that after a while you could really tell the expression on both Harper’s and Mulcair’s faces that they really can not believe that they continue to share the same stage as this guy, lol.

I think the format of the Munk debate was the best of this campaign so far. The live audience made all the difference. Trudeau is used to playing to live audiences so he looked most relaxed and at home. Harper is defensive in front of people that have not been personally selected, so he seemed a bit stiff. Overall a good exchange.
commented 2015-09-29 01:26:20 -0400
Oh yeah I caught Trudeau’s failure to shake hands at the start of the debate, but Harper didn’t hesitate to shake the hand of Mulcair when he came in. Looked like a snubby to me. I was shocked to hear that Trudy would not revoke the citizenship of some criminal terrorist, scary to say the least. Trudy loves using buzz words and stringing them together to create sentences and to me he always sounds like he’s rambling. He will say a lot but there’s no substance to what he says among the lies and fabrications. At one point he used one of his fave words 3 times in like fifteen seconds, that word was engage, he loves engaging people. And that little spot where he praises himself, when he went to great lengths to exhume his fathers memory was so touching, I was so fixated on what he was saying it stopped me from licking the cheesy dust off my fingers. And that Mulcair he wants to dismantle the oil sands, so of course there would be a lot of further job loss. As well, the Bearded Weasel wants to take us out of the fight against the Islamic Terrorist Plague called ISIS and for sure we will lose respect from other members of the coalition and that refugee invasion will just get bigger quicker. Mulcair thinks he can run a government, balance a budget, negotiate trade deals, this from a guy that hasn’t even learned to shave yet. Why else would he have all that multi-coloured, unkempt, lice ridden, monkey hair on his face ? Let’s be objective Trudy nor Monkair are fit to hold the office of Prime Minister, in all honesty neither one of them could organize a bowel movement. So please Canada vote for sanity, vote for security, vote for a future, please vote for Harper. Best to you all.

Hey Chelsea, you be completely devastated when Harper wins another majority. You need to come back and say “Hi” after the election.
commented 2015-09-29 01:12:46 -0400
Mulcair and Trustin are off my list because they adopt a soft line on Canadian values. Also not deporting criminals and bring expensive and even dangerous Muslim immigrants to Canada. Times are hard in Alberta and it is not that I am mean spirited but immigrants who do not speak English/French will be costly. The British estimate $12,000 resettlement per immigrant just to find somewhere for them to stay and feed; then welfare for ever? In the mean time Canadians do not get the health care they need.

This is the most biased, mis-informed commentary on the current election that I have come across. It must be so sad for you that Harper won’t be re-elected.
