French MP M'jid El Guerrab has resigned after allegations he was involved in a street brawl with Socialist Boris Faure.
It is alleged that El Guerrab, a member of President Emmanuel Macron's LREM party, hit Faure over the head with a motorcycle helmet. Faure suffered head injuries and had to spend days recovering in intensive care.
The Daily Mail reports that El Guerrab defend his actions by claiming Faure grabbed him by the arm and called him a “dirty Arab.” He went on to add, “'I did not attack Mr Faure.”
Both politicians are said to have been feuding for months. El Guerrab left the Socialists to join Macron's party last year and ended up defeating the candidate Faure was managing the campaign for.
“I once again express my sincere regret at the turn of events,” El Guerrab said in a statement on Tuesday.
