New biometric security: "A foreign citizen has no right to just waltz into our country"

Rebel Staff

Under the new security measures just announced by Stephen Harper's government, some people entering Canada will have to provide biometric data, such as fingerprints.

Why should Canadians object to us collecting this data about foreign citizens?

By definition, they don't have the same rights we do under the Charter, and certainly have no inherent right to enter our country.

I agree! Good for Harper! Sadly, going by the current polls, we will probably be under NDP rule after October.

It has been a long time coming and is badly needed. Good for Harper.

I think that Stephen Harper is on the right track. We can not accept terrorists in our country and we have the right to say no!

Ron, I have seen the term “Fascist Bill C-51” on the CBC. It is just a name applied to it to dig at Harper. I did not see on the CBC in the few articles about this bill any comment where anybody explained the reason why they called it that and I doubt Terry Black can either.

Terry Black said “the Fascist “Bill C-51”. I am also against the bill. Can you tell me why you call it fascist? Three reasons will work for me. I am against the bill as CSIS gets powers domestically that they should not have. Fascist to me means Adolph Hitler, General Franco and Salazar.

I agree with Ezra ( Journakist ) on this issue! I do not agree with "the Fascist “Bill C-51”!

Love you Stephen…you will have my vote as long as you keep trying to make my country a better and safer place…it’s about time we got this system in place…should have been brought in after 9/11…I’ll bet it will stop a lot of other fraudulent immigrants…like human trafficking cases, too…

This will also stop people who were kicked out of Canada from sneaking back in.

Prince Knight – You are wrong! Men ARE allowed to have beards when having a passport taken! If beards were not allowed most Sikh’s and many Muslims would never be able to get a passport or be allowed to travel internationally.

just sayn canada so far behind!

Thanks Garry for those links. Verrry Interesting. B.T.W. I knew about Israel, but did not know about Japan!

Garry — Facial recognition has been around for a long time. Why else are men not allowed beards or glasses when having passport photos taken? For that very reason. (And those rules have been around for MINIMUM 10 years…)

I personally do not object to the biometric screening, so long as we you are registered Canadian citizens do not have to undergo the same thing. If they keep the screening solely for foreigners along with a full background investigation to find out where they’re coming from, and who they are real trouble makers, or a major liability or threat to the peace and safety of this country, then they don’t need to be in this country in the first place.

Peter and Joan you will like this one. My wife who just became a citizen last month says PM Harper is doing an excellent job and will vote from him. I just played her the video clip and that was her response. Whenever she went to the US she had to go inside and have her finger prints taken plus photo. Now that she is a Canadian she doesn’t have to do that anymore. She is one of PM Harper’s biggest fans. When she got her citizenship she was given a letter from the PM.

go to japan and israel they have bio metrics!

anything Harper says, the left cries out for the opposite. Simply ridiculous.
commented 2015-06-04 18:38:58 -0400
Peter you would think by reading some of the mumbo jumbo from “distinguished” journalists on the left that PM Harper is the reincarnation of Adolph Hitler.
commented 2015-06-04 18:38:11 -0400
This is just common sense. Reality Check: Some industries I have worked for required this type of information so I could have access to sensitive matters and achieve a clearance rating. No big deal. The only ones that cause me any concern having this biometric data would be the Lieberals. They have shown themselves untrustworthy starting with that Communist, PET!

A quick glance at the CBC article on this issue indicates that the left are screaming bloody murder as I though they would be with all the usual accusations; “dictatorship”, “police state”, “tearing away our Canadian civil rights”, “unconstitutional”, “Harper is a dictator”. I could go on, but you get the point.

The leftie choir is in full chorus mode, singing the blues in many part discordance.

Yup! Obviously is was the right thing to do. Well done PM Harper, keep it up!

Agreed, that foreign citizens should not be able to just “waltz into our country”. Start implementing visitors visas, if we haven’t already (have to get one if I’m visiting my sister in Aussieland), and start heavily investigating “refugees” (because a significant percentage of them aren’t). Canada has had an “open door” policy for a long time, and it’s been abused.

Obama is not going to like this. He has plans to allow the illegals coming through Mexico, to cross over into our country! I am all for biometrics technology.

Yah Harper…just watching CBC, something I rarely do, I cannot believe what slanted, disgusting so called journalism in my life, that host of power and politics is a complete slanted slime. He is one of those idiots that would, and is a danger to Canada in the most disgusting ways. Tried everything he could to twist what his guest was saying. It is no wonder CBC is watched by maybe 100 people at any one time. What toilet do they find these morons. Shut down the CBC for being a danger to Canada, but mostly it is a massive waste of taxpayer money. Hopefully Harper will defund and privatize it after the next election. Let the sink on their own merits.

I agree. Let’s make sure no terrorists with fake ID get into Canada. How anyone can think this is a bad idea is beyond me.

When I got a job proofreading the Cruise Missile documents for Litton Systems, I had to give my fingerprints. Why shouldn’t foreign nationals from countries where jihadis have threatened to “burn” us here not also give theirs?
