New group: Firearms Institute for Rational Education aims to help law-abiding gun advocates

Brian LilleyArchive

The fight over legal gun ownership and gun rights is mainly conducted at the Federal level so with the election of Justin Trudeau and the Liberals, what does this mean for gun owners?

Todd Brown has been involved with a number of gun rights groups. He recently started a new group, Firearms Institute for Rational Education (FIRE), that aims to educate people about current laws in order to better assist them in advocating for gun friendly laws.

The group started in August and has already had its first success when Alberta's Wildrose Party adapted policy that will be helpful for law-abiding, legal gun owners.

Listen in to our interview and check-out the FIRE website here.

First they want to endanger our lives with reckless immigration, then render us defenseless. Doesn’t matter anyways. Anyone can get a gun,as I will be doing.

James we have had 2 major firearms rights advocacy groups involved at the federal policy level for over 20 years. They have been effective in restoring reasonable regulations to the FA. If they are ineffective maybe it’s because firearms owners don’t realize a membership in these organizations is as important as a membership to their club or range.

Here is our first problem as firearms people, too many groups all trying to be king, I don’t like so and so, so I will start my own, we need a NRA type organisation, we are too small for this, while there is one Coalition for Gun Control, run by a very politically savvy woman.

Steve and Marty (ignorant trolls no doubt) have demonstrated why there is a provision for revocation of the firearms licence and for a prohibition order for possession of firearms.

I wonder if either of you two morons know making death threats is an indictable federal offence which will result in you losing your privilege to own a firearm?

Maurice Potvin – In the video it is clearly stated that Alberta Opted out of the Federal Legislation. Alberta can use the “Not Withstanding” Clause to exclude itself from any Federal Legislation and even to secede from Confederation with Canada. If the loons in Toronto and Montreal keep pushing us we may just take the hint and say bye.

I wish that ANYONE who has murderous thoughts would be considerate of other gun owners and select a golf club as weapon of choice instead of a gun.

In the long run …if the majority of assaults with a weapon and murders are done with golf clubs instead of a gun….then it becomes feasible to impose RPAL/ATT rules on liberal golfers.

The Provincial Government may not have the power to control what laws are passed at a Federal level, but they do control how those laws are enforced at a Provincial level. The RCMP at the Provincial level are operating under contract to the Provinces as a Provincial Police Force. If they, as an organization, don’t like how the Provincial Government deals with firearms issues, the Provincial Governments would be well within their rights to tell the RCMP, that at the end of their current contract their services would no loner be needed, and appoint their own Provincial Police Force, Like Ontario and Quebec have done.

Maybe we sshould take Charton Heston’s attitude. “You will get my firearm over my cold dead body”

STEVE MCQUEEN, funny you should say that. Every time I see the turds face I see a small black hole right between his eyes with a small trickle of red below. It’s only a dream, BUT what a dream.

Good luck with this. Although the entire firearms act, regulations and Criminal code section has been available on line for decades, a rational discourse on lawful firearms ownership has always been impossible due to a general ignorance of existing statute by politicians and media alike. Frankly I think this issue has been over politicized and hyperbolically presented that fact, perspective and reason may never return to the dialogue.

After decades of being confronted with blind ignorance of the gun laws by the general public and politicians, education is certainly due.

Who’s gonna take one for the team and blow Trudeau’s head off?

A noble endeavor, but I am certain it will amount to nothing. This extreme leftist liberal government WILL implement the most draconian bureaucratic attack conceivable on law abiding gun owners, and there is nothing too stop them.
