Unfreedom of the press? Even though we filled out all the paperwork and jumped through all the bureaucratic hoops, the Rebel was denied press credentials by the Parliamentary Press Gallery to cover today's Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights — a committee that is seemingly hellbent on resurrecting the pro-censorship Section 13 clause of the Canadian Human Rights Act.
We think that might qualify as a new benchmark for perverse irony!
Their answer to our application reads, in part:
Having reviewed your application, the Board has determined that your application does not meet the requirements for membership in the Gallery's by-laws. This determination was based on the fact that the assigning organization, Rebel News Network, does not adhere to generally accepted journalistic principles and practices as understood and determined by the board.
