Over the past few months, NFL players with many different teams, have been taking a knee during the National Anthem, ostensibly to protest against racial inequality and against Donald Trump.
Americans have made it clear that they do not like seeing the anthem disrespected by boycotting the NFL, causing television ratings to plummet. Despite this, the NFL has been too afraid of being "politically incorrect" to put a stop to these anthem protests.
On Wednesday, the NFL once again submitted to the anthem-kneeling players in a ridiculous way:
The NFL and a group of players reached an agreement in principle late Wednesday night to partner on a plan to address social justice issues considered important to African-American communities, sources told ESPN.
The unprecedented agreement calls for the league to contribute $89 million over seven years to projects dealing with criminal justice reform, law enforcement/community relations and education.
The agreement does not include language calling for players to end protests during the national anthem in exchange for funds; there's no implicit quid pro quo. But the NFL hopes this effort will effectively end the peaceful yet controversial movement that former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick started in 2016, when he refused to stand for the anthem.
So the NFL players just encouraged these anthem-kneeling players by literally handing them $89 million with absolutely no guarantee that they will get anything in return.
This just shows the utter lack of logic that the left's politically correct obsession has inflicted on the United States. The NFL owners, most of whom are white, are so afraid of being labelled "racist" for disagreeing with the protesting players that they agreed to a ridiculous deal that may not yield a positive outcome.
With ratings steadily in decline and the NFL drastically losing money, the only logical deal for the owners would be one ensuring that the players stop protesting. Americans are rightfully offended by these national anthem protests because kneeling during this song is effectively telling members of the military and law enforcement that the sacrifices they made for the American flag do not matter. It's time for the NFL owners to put a stop to this nonsense, not throw money at the problem.
