“Trumbo” movie sugarcoats the toxic ideology of communism

David MenziesMission Specialist

Last weekend, my lefty friend suggested I celebrate Labour Day by watching his favourite flick of 2015 Trumbo, a biopic about Dalton Trumbo who in 1947 was the highest-paid screenwriter until he was blacklisted for being a member of the Communist Party.

Bryan Cranston as Dalton Trumbo is superb though the movie itself would’ve been twice as good if only it were half as long. But I'm not doing a film review. What struck me about the movie was the kid-glove treatment it gave communism.

Progressive apologists lament that the ideology is valid but hasn’t been implemented “properly” and it is the poor execution by misguided dictators that is to blame for the atrocities committed in its name.

That’s a lie. It’s the ideology itself that is deeply flawed.

Trumbo got a raw deal being blacklisted for his beliefs but let’s not sugarcoat and make excuses for the toxic ideology that is communism.

Joe Boudrealt I agree. Without God we are nothing more than animals and animals don’t make moral distinctions and survival of the fittest is all that matters.

Communism/marxism/ socilaism is toxic because it ignores God.

‘the ideology is valid but hasn’t been implemented “properly”’

Sounds just like Islamists talking. No wonder they get along so well.

Was Venezuela the model of a perfect democratic society prior to the ascension of the communist Marxist loving Chavez? Of course not. But in just over a decade , socialist/Marxist policies have totally destroyed the countries economy. And how does it recover when the leadership is completely co-opted by Cuban and Iranian secret service and military advisors and the media (what is left of it) is threatened if they do not follow the party line.
Communism can only thrive in the despotic tyrannical world that it creates. It has never worked and it will never work. It is the antithesis of human behaviour and only benefits the few that are able to seize power and maintain it through intimidation and ultimately slaughter.
Want to be a communist? Buy a ticket to Caracas and join all the people in the lines at the supermercados where the shelves are empty. And take your own supply of toilet paper because they can’t afford to import any there.

Communism is alive and well it’s just changed agendas… When Russia collapsed and was reborn as a free country communism moved from the east to the west… Communism always follows the money..
There is much wealth to be extracted from the USA and Canada… When a bankruptcy occurs all that lost money didn’t go nowhere… It went somewhere and that somewhere is right into somebody’s pocket.
