Notley NDP’s war on adult-only rentals will “hurt families it's designed to help”

Sheila Gunn ReidRebel Host | The Gunn Show

The Alberta NDP are proposing changes to the Human Rights Code that will make it illegal for landlords to discriminate based on age, essentially outlawing new adult-only buildings, and phasing out the ones that currently exist over 15 years.

Seniors housing developments, with a minimum age of 55, will remain.

The NDP is doing this on the pretence that families with small children are being discriminated against when looking for rental accommodation.

Kids can be destructive. Pets, too.

Renting to people with kids are pets can often be a huge financial risk for any landlord and some are just not willing to take it.

But now in socialist Alberta, there will be a human right to live in someone else's house against the wishes of the owner, but no human right to property autonomy.

The Edmonton Journal, parroting government talking points, says:

"Families with children will have more housing options in the new year if proposed changes to Alberta’s human rights legislation are passed."

But the opposite will happen.

WATCH as I explain why…

Socialists don't understand supply and demand, and real human rights, like property rights. And they never will.

Little wonder those with some extra space are turning to Air BNB. No rent controls, short term stays, get to choose who they want, and essentially hassle free money as Air BNB looks after most of the transaction (which is how they make their money). It’s a win – win – win. The person offering the accommodation, the traveler needing a roof for a night or more, and Air BNB.

- What! The little people want to do what they want with their own property! Send in the NDP! And they thought they had a shot at getting reelected? These people are delusional scumbags.

C.S. Lewis said it nicely when he said "Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive

I live in an adult community for a reason, no kids screaming in my ears all day long and no dogs barking all night keeping me awake. Taking my rights away is discrimination.

Thankfully I don’t live in a socialist run state. This bat-shit crazy woman is friggin nuts!!!!!

The racial problem in the US seems to be much worse and getting hotter. Just saw a short clip on RT which had CNN host Brooke Baldwin interviewing four black people from different locations. One of the black guys almost got out of his chair and yelled to one of the other black people “don’t tell me about my blackness, I know I’m black.” Poor Brooke didn’t know what to say.

The left unwittingly creates problems with their bad, ideological policy choices, and then try to fix them by piling on more bad choices. They fail to see that the more they tighten their grip, the more sand slips between their fingers. This is EXACTLY what happened in Venezuela.

And I’m sorry, but you notice it’s all women? It’s a female premier and all the proponents of this policy are women. They don’t understand democracy, and don’t care to. They just “want it fixed”. Women like Sheila are the anomaly in this country – unfortunately.

The province can’t just make up new things to add to the Human Rights Code, it has to be based on the Federal Human Rights Act. They’d have to change the Federal Human Rights Act first.

The “unintended consequence” of this will be in Health Care. If they’re like Ontario, they won’t operate on anyone over 75, regardless how spry they may be. If you add age to the HRA, you can kiss that cost-saving measure good-bye, and a whole basket full of other issues. If the Feds were to add age to the HRA, you couldn’t have Old Age Pension as but one example.

And, reading the media release, William Elder is 100% correct. When you get to the bottom of the page it’s really about single moms.

The stupidity of it is, it won’t help a single bit. Oh not just ‘cause of the things Sheila mentions, which are all correct, but because of the math (never a Lefty strong point). If you have 100,000 units, and 110,000 families, you’re short 10,000 units. That some seniors may be left out in the cold instead of single moms won’t help overall. You’ll still be short 10,000 units.

Here’s a better plan. Don’t wreck the economy and don’t over-regulate (chasing investors away). I see this problem as a direct result of all the other Notley policies. Man, it’s going to take 20yrs to fix her mess!!

Amazing how freedom is so easily squashed by social justice warriors. Nobody should be forced to rent to socialist pets, unemployable single parents, unemployable immigrants, unemployable young people. The forced appropriation of people’s personal property and government handing it to others is socialist at best and communism at worst.

Heh, please don’t buy into happyface globalist weasel terminology – then an orange Dipped commie says “families”, they are really talking about single Mom welfare families – it has been the lefts agenda to destroy the atomic family unit as a pillar of middle class social dominance – done with degenerated sexual mores, no fault devorce, gender-biased family law /courts – their entire constituency is made up of single parent divorced families raised by the state – broken families is the stock in trade of globalist socalism.

Well…we do not have property rights except for privileged regressives, as Ms. G-R states. So how long before working to middle class Seniors, like my wife and me, are told we have to open our houses, owned since the 1970’s, to renters who the government will decide. However, not so the hypocritical fucking asshole elite left.

OOPS. Did I think that adjective out loud? Good!

Maybe Notley WANTS to have less rental properties out there. That will “force” the government to build public housing and look good in the process.

Has Edmonton been renamed Notleygrad in honour of her implementation of the Communist playbook in Alberta.

I remember back in the early 1980’s attending a lecture given by professor Ram Seth. He was an advisor on the federal government economics council. He had been a class mate of Mick Jaeger at the London School of Economics. He had won awards for…his outstanding pedagogy…he could take the subject of economics…the most sand dry sleep inducing subject….and turn it into passionate debate that would put people on the edge of their seats and make them cancel other things just to be there and take up the debate next class….sort of like Jordan Peterson.

I remember him scribing out the converging lines of supply and demand on the blackboard and explaining how it was quantitatively possible to calculate the value volume of a black market created by government interference ….

And I remember most of all the lecture where he scribed those lines…and then turned around to the class and with an Indian accent like Tarek Fatah and a wicked mischief (that we would today call “trolling”) say…

AND THEN….ALONG CAME THE DEVIL AND IMPOSED A RENT CONTROLAND THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS

There was a snarl arouse in the class…me included…but I had just returned from Montreal where rent control was the main reason why I had suffered in a rental market…but didn’t realize it.

I mark that lecture as the rudder turn that brought me to conservative epiphane.

The last place I rented in Montreal …what attracted me was the line in the ad that said “landlord on premesis”…..if I had cockroaches so would he and his wife would not put up with it….if the heat went off I would no longer have to deal with an answering machine of a law firm that was a receiver in bankruptcy….but before that lecture I hadn’t really put it together how the landlord’s interests were my interests.

Nanny Notley should be forced to rent her basement to people she wouldn’t share a cab with!
commented 2017-11-02 17:49:12 -0400
The socialist nanny state is the reason the Non Democratic Party will be gone come the next election. The nannies are always sticking their noses in where they aren’t needed or wanted. I can’t wait until these communist clowns are gone!
commented 2017-11-02 17:43:33 -0400
… The desperate, dying NDP just can’t respect the right of landlords and business owners to run their own business. These communist clowns don’t have the decency or respect to just let Albertans make their own decisions.
… Notley, get out!!! We want an election!!!!!!
