Ask a conservative woman: Online abuse not just directed at “left wing sisterhood”

Brian LilleyArchive

I’ve been listening over the last six to twelve months about how bad life is for women, especially progressive women when it comes to politics and the nasty online environment that exists.

If you were to believe the media, you would think that the only folks being targeted by mean tweets and abusive comments were women.

I won’t deny that these women face abuse online, but that abuse is not only aimed at progressive women and in fact, not just at women at all.

It’s simply because they’re public figures active in political debate. I’m sure the tweets they get are mean, and I bet plenty were well out of bounds. Watch as I provide the facts that debunk the idea that this is unique to women or progressive political women.

In fact, most of my critics are on the progressive left. Thankfully, there haven’t been death threats in quite a while.

Many, often acting with a degree of anonymity, have become unhinged and will say things online they'd never say to your face, but we all have options.

We can whine about it, we can ignore it or we can block these people.

But please don’t claim this abuse is the exclusive domain of the left wing sisterhood.

Cameron where is your evidence of her one sided abuse of others? And Notley is an insulting bitch. And the point is that not only left wing women get abused online like they claim. The left is far more abusive and you know it.

People are rude to each other online? I had no idea. Kudos on the cutting edge journalism!

Has the Trudeau government been taken over by radical Islam? One would think so considering there are many Muslims speaking out against M-103 a Liberal divisive motion. If there is one thing the Liberal cartel is good at is divisive politics oh and theft of Canadian taxes for corruption. Make that two things the Liberal cartel is good at. Look at their spending habits, Trudeau spent $5 billion on his 1% friends at the UN and Devos. Yet still there is not 1 reserve off a boil water. The Liberals changed the name of Indian a fares to aboriginal a fares. Millions more spent funding Liberal friendly advertising to get the message out. ad scam in the works? While Trudeau continues his world tour with billionaires accomplishing nothing other than funding 1%ers at the expense to all Canadians with no benefit. Working for the middle class I say not. Trudeau has not created any new jobs. Full time employment is falling like a stone and the Liberals have only spent $30 billion to accomplish not one new job. How far in debt will Canada go before they rid society of Canada’s worst government in history and most corrupt. $30 billion spent and none of this was for Canadians but for the 1% Liberal friends that are stealing the future of our children. Trudeau the fake feminist and fake PM. Clearly his back ground demonstrates his only talent is pretending to be what he is not.

There are so many good comments here. This is so true, these politicians get elected by some people & are supposed to work for the people & in Notley & Wynne’s cases it all goes to hell. Loss of jobs, stale economy, etc, etc & the people affected & even those not affected see the destruction & feel helpless. Protests, emails to their offices, whatever, nothing changes & the people feel abandoned & become discouraged & their only recourse (for some) is to blast that politician in an email.
I do not agree with this recourse, but who am I to judge these people who feel completely hopeless & no way out for another 3 yrs (like a lifetime for them) when all of it could be avoided with a politician who listens & cares. In Notley’s case, all the job losses didn’t need to happen, but she surrounded herself with oil haters of which she is one & started her destruction & the only hope there is now to recoup is for Kinder Morgan’s Trans Mountain pipeline to be built ASAP.

If you’re a female on the left & someone criticizes you or sends you a mean tweet, the response is always the same, it’s because of their gender to which I say bull crap because this is rubbish. I criticize Notley or Wynne not because they are female, but because of their policies & I would do the same if they were male. Instead of learning something from that criticism & perhaps paying heed to what their critics have to say & perhaps start making adjustments, noooooooo, instead they dig in their heels even deeper.

Marty you are correct.I really have a hard time with some of these bastard politicians. What the hell do they expect. We need to be able to recall politicians that put forth their warped views and visions that they hide till elected. Canada needs referendums to give the power back to the people and not the dictator of this country.

Freedom of speech is the human right to offend back
Not to issue personal death threats
But if you should die before you wake

MARA LOWE provided the vid link on FEB 17th topic KHALID “islamophobia”. Some of you must have viewed it. Please let me know what you think.

In my opinion most hate toward the Right is instigated by none other than the MSM.

I don’t deny that Brian is correct, except that when politicians are elected BY the people, FOR the people, and then spend their time in office doing as they please and making people suffer, going against what the people want or need – what does anybody expect the affected population to do or say?
Politicians are elected to look after the population not to make life difficult and in a lot of cases miserable to live. They all speak and act so saintly before they are elected, and then when elected become monsters, feathering their own nests, and to hell with the population and what they think and need. Because they know that nobody can do any thing to stop them or change their ways short of an uprising, which will never happen in Canada.
So the only recourse is to rebuke them and call them names, which as Brian says sometimes causes them mild distress but for the most part is water off a ducks back.

Perhaps Left-wing “progressives” need to take a good, long look at themselves and ask “Why am I being attacked with such anger and vitriol by otherwise normal people?”

When your policies literally put people on the street, take food from their children’s mouths, make them lose their jobs, and blatantly work against the interests of other citizens, you are going to get pushback. People fighting for their very existence don’t tend to be very rational – they don’t have the luxury.

Leftists aren’t whining about “online harassment” or “abuse” because they care about the quality of public discourse, or because they actually fear for their safety. They are doing it because it is their preferred vehicle to shut down debate, free speech, and most importantly criticism of their policies – the most obvious examples are the constant blathering about “bigotry”, “misogyny” and “Islamophobia”.

If we take a step into the real world, look at who is actually perpetrating REAL abuse on REAL people. Ask Milo, Mark Steyn, Ann Coulter, or Richard Spencer about the “reasoned discourse” of the Left. Ask alt-right bloggers who have been doxxed by Leftist trolls, or businesspeople who have had their livelihoods taken from them by social media lynch mobs.

We could ask the cartoonists at Charlie Hebdo, I suppose – except that would require a seance and a medium…

If they cannot handle the anger, bad language, and unacceptable threats then
1) they should not be in public political life
2) they should be doing their best for the people they govern

Take a look at Harper who the whole 9 year and 9 month did his best, put himself on the line, all for Canada and he was attacked relentlessly with seething hate from his political enemies and had so many threats of various kinds including death, but yet remained true and honest.

I don’t agree with uttering threats of bodily harm. It is unacceptable, but I do understand the anger behind it especially when the target of the anger is intentionally destroying our society, whether due to veiled malice or more likely a twisted mind and twisted philosophy on how to govern, and twisted policies.

Also David, I from what I’ve read Khalid seems to be more of a vessel to deliver m103 than the author/architect (Muslim Brotherhood?)
commented 2017-02-20 12:22:44 -0500
David you’re right. My take on it is this. We all agree M103 (among other political policies) is an outrage on so many levels. When I heard MP Khalid stand up in the HOC & read out her messages of hate it made my toes curl! Anyway, I wonder when the comments are so violent & extreme do they just stop listening to us and we fail to make our point. I watch Ezra, he seems to be able to get the message across without violence & obscenity. Now,,,, you are still right, you have every right to express yourself. My thought is that the opposition just stops listening & labels us some sort right extremist which I do not believe we are.

SALLY CITIZEN…..When you set out to destroy, and then display outrage when challenged, what would you expect. These crying whores should be thankful the people still have the chance to submit their displeasure with mere words, what do they think the ALTERNATIVE would be? And now we have to scramble to protect what freedoms we have left, with a rookie, wet behind the ears female proponent of the sharia helping front this ill advised and delusional M103. Now as taxpayers we are footing the bill for more security that the dumb dumbs wouldn’t need if they didn’t bring it on themselves. For another clear example, look at socialist/communist Sandra Janssen. Masquerades as a conservative but was easily found out. She gets called a cunned stunt, then complains add nauseam about her safety bla bla bla. She is where she belongs now though, and I fear her “abuse”??? is not over.

For any of you who have not viewed the video link that MARA LOWE posted on the KHALID “islamophobia” topic of FEB 18th, please take the few minutes necessary to go and have a look. I won’t list the myriad of “sisters” I would like to see have this happen to them. Some stupid views would be altered in short order I presume. Lyndsey Lohan could go first.

Please check the vid out, and if not too much trouble post a comment to me on this site. I would like to hear some of your opinions.

My hope is that we would be able to discuss our differences without losing our cool & spewing hate. That is what I always “attempt” to do. I try never to say anything that I would not say to someone in person. Not one of us is anonymous even when using an alias. So far as Rachel Notley & Kathleen Wynne, I am sorry to hear of the abuse they take, but boy oh boy are they screwing up their respective provinces with their policies, especially energy ! People are angry & rightfully so.

Brian, Do I detect a mild rebuke or an admonition of the more hyperbolic of us commenters, those expressers of emotive language and honest emotion? – Commenters that you’re not supposed to read!?
Self imposed restraints on the expression of our completely justified fear and anger are already in place – believe me!
At some point in the near future we in(on) the right will have to move forward from vocal complaint to something more…meaty. If not to effect change for the better than at the least just to defend ourselves – our rights, our property, our families our communities…our very lives and liberty!
There are many commenters here that are very good at expressing themselves coherently, clearly and in a civil manner that doesn’t offend…me, I’ll stick with the hyperbola and emotive language thank you.
