Ontarians take a bath on Canada Day: $200K for world’s largest rubber duck

David MenziesMission Specialist

What the duck? Ontario celebrates Canada Day by renting an enormous rubber ducky.

And this great Canadian icon that was integral to confederation only cost $200,000 to rent.

Yet again, your tax dollars hard at work. Suckers!

I finally figured out what the connection this symbol has with Canada. Under liberal policies we are all sitting ducks just paint a target on our backs and waiting to get plucked.

Brenda Morris said in part, “VERY ANGRY TAXPAYER
I am too Brenda, as one of the hardworking taxpayers in Ontario, I’m so sick of being fleeced by the Liberals; the corruption and theft is beyond comprehension. Billions have been stolen from the taxpayer and it’s not over!
Trudeau and Wynn are criminals. So is Notley!

VERY ANGRY TAXPAYER
What’s this nonsense??? $200,000 on a damned rubber duck. Well, Premier wynne after this debacle, in a long string of debacles , am sure we Ontario TAXPAYERS will be more than happy to support your govt next yr!!!
wynne and trudeau are quite the pair; TOTAL EMBARASSMENT and LAUGHING STOCK on the reputation of hard working Canadians.
trudeau with his reneging on electoral reform Allowing dual citizens to retain their citizenship after being convicted of terrorism. As a Canadian I assume that pols put the safety of Canadians at the top of the list — maybe not!!!
wynne in a Toronto mosque sitting “at the back of the bus” listening to a sermon about homosexuals being thrown from heights.
This stupidity has even gone down to Toronto Council and the Police Dept. Radical mosque’s imam advocating congregants murder Jews and Christians. Has the Council asked the Police to investigate? Is murder still against the law?

$200,000 to RENT!??!

Fer Chrissakes, for $200,000 you could BUY one. Or two. Or five.

Someone needs to be fired.

I just love the regularity with which Jimmy Reece steps into the poo with his musings… Like:-“Old people may have life experience, but they are generally on the wrong side of history with many issues…” Yeah… like winning WWII and defeating Communism??… Jimmy must have very brown booties by now…
commented 2017-07-04 01:49:11 -0400
Jimmy Reece we pay attention to history, you ignore it. Communism and Marxism and heavy socialism destroy countries, no BS is going to change that fact. And calling out left wing stupidity is not being out of touch , and i hate to tell you that our society is getting stupider and more self important and lazier.
commented 2017-07-04 01:47:26 -0400
Jimmy Reece you always seem to know why people do things or what they are thinking. You must be psychic. Or maybe you just pull this stuff out of your ass as you have no real argument.
commented 2017-07-04 01:46:21 -0400
Jimmy Reece when the hell did any of us so slavery was not bad or women should not have rights oyu ignorant fool? The left is saying that right now by supporting Islamists and they only speak against slaves owned by whites in the past and never who sold them or enabled the trade or who does it in this day and age. So try some reality.
commented 2017-07-04 01:44:26 -0400
Jimmy Reece the attendance increase was more likely due to it being a landmark year , this duck had nothing to do with it. Man you are one pathetic apologist. And i am sure we are pretty much the same age. And not going along with every stupid thing progressives pull out of their ass is not being out of touch. If change is so great then why did the left have a cow when change such as reasonable restrictions on abortion were talked about? Suddenly change was horrible.

Older than what?

“Old people may have life experience, but they are generally on the wrong side of history with many issues, because you can’t teach an old dog new tricks – meaning they are not going to change as society changes.”

Not all change is good. It has to be weighed on its own merits or lack thereof. New dogs have no grasp of reality such as believing that budgets balance themselves.
commented 2017-07-03 22:26:58 -0400
Allan Peterson,

Yes, you are older. It’s already been confirmed that the demographic of The Rebel is primarily retirees and those not far behind.

One thing you also need to consider about old people is that they are also often out of touch and in some cases – have the mentality that slavery wasn’t so bad and women shouldn’t have rights.

Old people may have life experience, but they are generally on the wrong side of history with many issues, because you can’t teach an old dog new tricks – meaning they are not going to change as society changes.

So it looks like the rubber duck was entirely worth it. There was more than double the attendance from previous years and businesses in the area made a ton of money generated by people who wanted to see the duck. That is money those Canadian businesses wouldn’t have had without the duck. Way to see the big picture here conservatives.
commented 2017-07-03 22:03:46 -0400
Jimmy go play with your rubber duck in the tub . Wasted tax dollars anyway you spin it is wrong just like the billion dollars in green energy wasted . You sound like a political nut with no remorse for wasted taxes weather it was extorted from business or the public . Put it simply for you Jimmy it could have been used for something better . now go back in your CBC cave .

Allan Peterson,

It’s the conservatives who are ready to jump off a cliff – they can’t stop talking about how Canada is doomed forever and are happy that they don’t have much many years left to life, since most of you are older than dirt.

No, Jimmy, since we are older ( are we? Who knows?) we are warning others that THEY are going to fall off the cliff. But they laugh at us old farts for worrying so much. After all what would someone 80 years old (which I’m not) know about life? A whole lot more than some infantile peabrain who believes when someone tells them that budgets balance themselves.

I always listened carefully when older people told stories about the depression years and the war years since life tends to have cycles and situations often come around again.

It is always good to learn from the mistakes of others since you won’t live long enough to make them all yourself. Only a liberal believes other wise. The three pillars of leftiedom are:

1. a refusal to learn fro their mistakes.
2. a refusal to learn from the ,mistakes of others ( history) and
3. a refusal to exercise discernment.

Don’t say you weren’t warned.

Leviticus 2013,

Actually it does make sense now. You speak about pedophiles so much on here – it’s clear that you do have guilt and shame. It’s obviously the reason why you don’t use your real name.

You remind me of conservative politicians – who attack gay people and gay marriage and then they get caught having gay sex in a public bathroom.

So how long have you been sexually attracted to children? Do you take any kind of medication to keep your shameful urges in check?

Hyacinth,

I do understand that grants are through tax dollars, but they are given money ever year to do as they see fit. It wasn’t additional money – it was within their yearly budget. One way or another, money was going to be spent in a way that you would complain about like a whiny bitch.

So no, the money couldn’t have gone to the homeless instead, because that money is budgeted to the Redpath Waterfront Festival and the rest was paid for by corporations.

I amazed that I had to actually explain this to you.

An Ontario government grant of about $120,000 that is going toward a giant rubber duck for Canada 150 celebrations is ruffling some feathers. The six-storey-tall, 13,600-kilogram yellow duck is being brought to Toronto by the Redpath Waterfront Festival, at a total cost of $200,000, combining other funding such as corporate sponsorship.

PCs call $120K Ontario government grant for giant rubber duck a waste of money
… “It’s an absurd waste of taxpayers’ dollars,” Rick Nicholls said in question period. “It is an absolute cluster duck.”

Jimmy Duh Troll doesn’t seem to understand that GRANTS are funded through TAX DOLLARS.

Since The Rebel does such shitty reporting of the actual facts – I looked into for you conservative morons.

The duck was paid for by the Redpath Waterfront Festival and corporate sponsorship primarily.

What a shocker that The Rebel tried to sell the 200K as coming out of your pocket.

I have patriotic lethargy. A year ago, reading again and again about ridiculous government spending had me hitting my forehead with the palm of my hand. Now my head is sore and I just read in non-disbelief (Non because it’s expected now).

A former very proud Canadian has watched how not only Canada, but the world, has turned upside down. I’ve written to both my MP and MPP, no response. I guess they too suffer from lethargy. I’ve just turned 65. There is a large part of me that is glad I’m not young still, with many more years to stress over where this insane world is going. It’s going nowhere good. I’ve cried a lot of tears.

A $200,000 duck….even to say those words sounds absolutely sillly. The lady in your clip tried to sanitize the expense by stating “it was a grant”. Where does she think grants come from? Is there a “grant faerie” who bestows money that could not have been spent on anything else but this duck????

Our man-child PM is putting at risk, in a few short years, what it took this country decades upon decades to build up. Our parents/grandparents fought in wars, risking their lives, to keep our freedom. Now our freedom to even discuss our concerns freely and openly may be coming to an end as “some speech” will be considered hateful and inciteful. Well, isn’t that why we have enforceable hate laws already in place. The reason for M104 is transparent and sounds more than a little dystopian to me.

I worry about my future, as short as it is. I really worry for my children and my grandchild. I worry about what further damage can be done before Justin Trudeau is voted out. He’s moving quite quickly on ruining us and still has years to go. Scary!
commented 2017-07-03 12:44:00 -0400
So, Jimmy, if all the "real Canadians’ (i.e. liberals) jump off a cliff, I can assume you will do likewise since that’s what all “Real Canadians” are doing? We “batshit crazy” conservatives would rather weigh things on their merits (or lack thereof) and think for ourselves.

Liberals: lost herd drifts with the wind.

JimmY Reece: Here is the hypocritical liberals at their best. Some years back a Conservative M.P. went to some diner and was charged $12 for orange juice and the liberals media made sure the public knew of this travesty and I think the M.P. apologized and paid for it. A few years later when a liberal M.P. paid $16 dollars for a glass of sunshine and the Conservatives brought it up there response was ever so representative of the liberal sense of entitlement when they said “if this is all you have to criticize us for then we must be doing a pretty good job” added crickets from the liberal biased media. Both sides criticize each other for waste but only the liberals don’t give a crap. Both sides whine about each others wrong doings but for some reason Jimmy thinks we are the only ones. No it’s just the liberal media likes to give their financier in chief a free pass.
