You likely know what a credit score is, but have you heard of a social credit score? If not, this tool to rank a citizen’s behaviour is a plan that comes from Justin Trudeau’s favourite basic dictatorship, China.
Like your credit score, it would include your financial transactions but also may include traffic tickets, online activity and even your social media behaviour.
Currently, Chinese tech companies are running voluntary pilot programs before the government steps in to make it mandatory.
You may be wondering if this is so different from what Google, Facebook, and other tech giants already do in the West but watch as I explain the Chinese plan to implement a social credit ranking system by 2020 that will gauge “trustworthiness.”
Anyone critical of the regime would be severely impacted by this rating system which could be used to quash democratic movements.
Is it so far fetched to believe something similar could be in the West’s future?
