There’s a story brewing in the nation’s capital related to legal gun ownership and I think it’s one more Canadians need to hear about.
First time City Councillor and 20 year veteran of the Canadian Forces, Jody Mitic, is facing a progressive pile on for tweeting a picture of two new pistols he had just purchased, one for him and one for his wife.
An Ottawa Sun columnist led the charge and was joined by Ottawa’s Police Chief and a fellow councillor all suggesting his tweet showed bad timing and was in poor taste because of recent shootings in the city.
But, he had nothing to do with those shootings, and neither did any other law abiding gun owner.
The award for sheer arrogance from the media however has to go to the local CBC outlet whose anchor spoke of the insensitivity of the “spectre of a civic leader brandishing guns”, repeatedly failing to make a distinction about legal gun ownership.
This is the kind of shaming a public official who admits to being a legal gun owner can expect in Canada today.
The CBC and the rest in the media party need to be reminded that owning a gun in Canada is not a crime if you’re doing it legally.
Then maybe we can get back to seeing legal gun ownership in Canada as normal, like it used to be.
