Pipelines require “exploding up things:” Nanaimo's diverse take on Albertan oil

Keean BexteRebel Contributor

I'm in Nanaimo BC to see if locals will take up the call to engage in civil disobedience to stop Albertan oil from making its way to the Pacific.

HELP FUND REPORTS LIKE THIS

Nanaimo is only the second riding in the country to elect a federal Green Party candidate, and the expansion of the TransMountain Pipeline to the shores of the Pacific is a hot topic.

It's already suspicious that Trudeau would re-approve the pipeline when he needs green voters, and legal challenged have been filed by several First Nations groups in British Columbia demanding a rework of the proposal.

At the same time, various hippies have raised an alarm about the poor killer whales who will be disturbed by the extra ocean traffic resulting from the tankers shipping out the oil.

So let's see what the people of Nanaimo have to say.

Thanks to everyone who supports this journalism at RebelInvestigates.com. We can't do this without you!

The only person interviewed with common sense was the elderly gentleman while the rest all have the same old, same old mindset. Their reasoning is so pathetic, with no facts to back them up,just keep repeating like parrots.
Richard Mann, excellent points, but lost on those eggheads who are big on protests even civil disobedience, but still driving, talking on their cell phones, etc. People like that are just so full of it.

People like these are why we have the kind of government that we have.
Trudie is singing about building a pipeline, just to catch a few votes. That won’t last.
Could just tell by looking at the Man Bun Guy what his position on pipelines would be. Same with the colored hair and the bearded guy, I call “One Eye.” Other than the older bearded gentleman that made perfect sense. The rest are probably too busy with their lives looking for a Rainbow Road Crossing.

Richard Mann
Excellent wright up.

If so many of these people in Nanaimo are so concerned about the environment, why are they not protesting Victoria dumping 82 million litres of raw sewage per day in to the Strait of Juan de Fuca?
commented 2019-07-12 16:12:46 -0400
I would ask all these people that think pipelines destroy the earth and all the other claims to read this:

Take a drive from Calgary to Edmonton. How many pipelines do you cross? How many do you see? You’ll be surprised to know that crossing or paralleling the QE2 is hundreds and hundreds of pipelines. How does the environment look to you, Is it destroyed? Is it as bad as you are being told it would be? What about oil spills, smells and leaks? Any? My bet is that to all the above, you will answer No.
You see people you are being played for fools. Suckers and pawns in the game of corporate greed by the very people who claim to protect the environment and claim corporate greed is the devil. They get you all riled up and you do their dirty work by chaining yourselves to equipment or what ever you decide ( or are directed ) to do. I hear you saying this stuff about corporate greed and so forth, well who do you think funds the organizations that are raising all these concerns? Do YOU or your friends ever send money to them much less the huge sums of money they need to operate day to day? Where do the organizations moneys come from? These people are well funded by large corporations who stand to benefit largely from the shutting in of Canadian, yes CANADIAN not just Albertan oil. They are large US, Saudi Arabian, and Russian companies and govt agencies just to name a few. You are being played for complete fools. If you want cheaper gas and heating, allow more pipelines because an over supply of oil will surely drive the price DOWN. These foreign groups want our oil shut in to artificially keep prices higher so THEY make more profits. And you are only helping them pad their pockets. Do you realize how foolish you are making yourselves look? They sit back and laugh at you while they control the strings like a giant puppeteer making you do their very wishes.
Do you realize that your government supplies you with all the things you feel you deserve from your government by spending tax dollars that they collect? When there is little or no oil royalties ( taxes ) that means the Government has to make up that short fall. Where will it come from? Raise taxes on large companies you think? Those companies will eventually close their doors and/or leave. Don’t think it can’t happen? Think again, those companies answer to share holders who are the same people who buy and sell stocks every day. People like your neighbour or any pension fund or anyone else who has any type of investment portfolio. When the company shows a low profit share holders sell the stock and buy something else that makes more profit. Possibly even those same companies that are playing you! Enough people sell and the price starts to drop to where eventually it’s worthless. Would you buy a stock that is going down? Hint: you probably shouldn’t. So when a Canadian company isn’t showing any profit and the prices drop, they will eventually close their doors which in turn causes people to lose their jobs, govt to lose tax revenue and communities to lose people. People like your kids’ friends parents, the local soccer or hockey coach and so on.
So before you say you will partake in civil disobedience just to shut down one of those dirty pipelines think of the REAL consequences, the consequences of lost jobs not just in your community but in the entire country, Don’t let those people play you for fools any longer, support your country and the people in it. If a foreign country such as Saudi Arabia or whomever were to do a military attack on your country today would you stand up and fight for your country or would you help them take over? Shutting down Canadian pipelines is not standing up for Canada. They’ve tugged on your heartstrings by saying how pipelines will hurt all the things you think are sweet and dear. Do you honestly think ANYONE building or operating pipelines wants to have any type of damage to our environment? These are the same people who hunt, hike, fish, swim and play in all our naturally beautiful land and they don’t want it destroyed. They care probably MORE than you do. Just sit with them, talk to them and get to know your fellow countrymen you’ll be surprised and impressed.

Alex Mackenzie, your last sentence indicates to me that you are perhaps some sort of supporter for Eugenics and that, sir, does not impress me one iota.

In addition, on another pre-screen to this interview it indicates that green party member was part of Conspiracy 9/11 …………… seriously, you don’t think there wasn’t something highly suspicious about the 9/11 event? Perhaps re-examine your criteria when attempting to produce some decent/balanced journalism? This comment shows the start of being close-minded, not open, inclusive and informative, which is what journalism should in fact be. The lead: who, what, where, when, why and how… not just issuing words to divide readers and be “sensational.”

For the most part these people are employed because of government spending and are oblivious to the realities of the real world.

This video illustrates why we need to find a political system that maintains a government for the people, but doesn’t allow equal participation by people who are clearly too stupid to find their way across town.

The girl in the tie-dye mumbles something about the trauma people suffer watching their land used for a pipeline (huh?) and then wishes well the hundred thousand plus people who have suffered real trauma of not being able to take care of their families because these lunatics have put them out of work.

I was in Victoria last summer and we were commenting on the abundance of pseudo-businesses like fancy soap companies and tea shops. You can see why now!

The only intelligent person was the older gentleman with the beard and I’m not just saying that because his opinions align with mine. Like I said, we need a system that doesn’t allow our leaders to be chosen by people who have no real grasp of issues and critical thinking ability.

Greenies are nothing more than hippies on steroids. Bunch of brainwashed, anarchist nincompoops.

By the way, it seems more likely that the killer whale pods are being more endangered by the dozens of “whale watching” tour operators looming much too close, than commercial traffic ships…

Glad to see a few postings from people who have actually lived in “bathtub race” town… Nanaimo has been a “leftie/union” town from day one ever since the coal mining days and union disputes… In recent years it has suffered from the “street people/druggie” hordes spilling over from Vancouver, then to Victoria, and now to Nanaimo… The tanker traffic issue is a convenient mirage because the tankers that ply the waters are in in Straits of Juan de Fuca which is on the WEST side of Vancouver Island, not Georgia Straits, and some three hours of driving time along Highway 4 to even see the straits… It’s cruise ships to Alaska that take Georgia Straits, not tankers… As to Paul Dixon’s query:- Yes, plan to arrive at Duke Point, not downtown Departure Bay, and take the Nanaimo Bypass to visit the rest of this beautiful island…

Yvette Lantz—-I wonder if Nanaimo’s young realize that there are now Asian Tankers steaming by your Island, full of Jet Fuel to supply Vancouver Airport. The new 13 km pipeline from Van Harbor to the Airport is finished and should do the job for 40 years. (No Environmental Review Necessary.) No more Alberta Oil necessary for the Airport, as it seems BC prefers Asian products. The BC Government must think that Asian Tankers don’t kill Whales.

YVETTE LANTZ, I’m sorry, you are right. I live in the Interior and when BC is branded as all being left wing I feel the same way. Please accept my apologies.

Rebelation --Good point about standing in the nice clean air while worrying about Climate Change.

The other part of the hypocrisy is if the planet is in such bad shape, why are people living so much longer ? More and more are living into their 90’s and even into their Hundreds. Pretty good numbers considering AOC says that we only have 11 years left.

To Lila Rosie… no that gentleman is not a tourist. please don’t tar everybody with the same stick. There are some people with a brain here. The turnout at the by-election was very low. Hopefully we can turn things around.

Well, after watching Keean’s interviews I have my thoughts confirmed about the absolute low information, hopped up on weed citizens of Nanaimo. I was born and raised in Nanaimo but believe me it is nothing like the place I grew up in. We live nearby,in another district in a rural area. After living in various cities across Canada we moved back here but we do not go to the downtown area of Nanaimo. Most of the people that frequent the area, but not all, are somewhat like those interviewed. Especially the younger people….. they sound so uneducated.

We are hoping to get Paul Manly voted out. He is such a radical and as for Elizabeth May, she deserves no respect. You have to realize that Nanaimo has voted NDP for eons.
Most of my neighbors where I live lean Conservative so at least we think alike.

These young people think no further than their noses about the economy so I guess what it is going to take is a complete collapse of the system. The way Justin Trudeau is handling things it won’t take too much longer if he stays in power. God help us all!!!!!

Wow. These idiots don’t see the hypocrisy of worrying about the environment while standing in an area with beautiful blue skies, breathing nice clean air. Now THAT, is someone brainwashed!!

It’s pronounced NAIMO….Justin Trudeau stutters….

I could never live in a place with that much wilful blind ignorance. Isn’t that saucer overdue to ‘capsize’ anytime now? They only know what they are told. Not a critical thought between the bunch of them. No synapses. I really hope these ‘warriors’ forget to get off the couch on voting day. Nutjobs, but with the leadership over there who could be surprised at the utter misinformation.

Except for the gentleman in the pink/purple shirt. He rocks. He must just be a tourist.

Ah, Nanaimo…land of useful idiots. Yet for some reason I continue to live here. And I’m pretty sure Manly only won b/c the Dipper candidate had nothing relevant to say. Next time, Keean, go hang out at one of the north end malls – you might get a little more common sense. For the record, I agree with everything the older guy said. And I’d like to ask the rest: what are you prepared to do without? or what are you prepared to pay for all the products you take for granted, that depend on fossil fuels? (Hint: that’s just about everything.)

So the pipeline will intentionally kill the whales and endanger the sensitive marine life?

Question: are ships expected to be entering and using the area where the whales reside?

That last guy seems to have fully partaken of Justin’s legalization of weed. I think Keean must have had to tie him down for the interview to keep him from floating away. I will be near Nanaimo next week – is there a bypass to go around that loony bin?!
