A legal loophole allows refugees and asylum seekers applying to be cab drivers to be exempt from background checks.
Transport for London rules allow potential rapists and murderers to not disclose their criminal history.
According to The Daily Express, the loophole is clear as day and is written on a Transport for London document for “private hire driver licensing” applications.
“With regards to overseas criminal records checks, no such checks will be made in respect of those applicants who declare that they are in possession of or who have applied for refugee or asylum status,” the document reads.
Asylum workers are supposed to be banned from working until their asylum claim has been approved.
UKIP candidate Lawrence Webb wants the loophole closed.
“No one should be issued with a minicab licence unless they have first undergone a criminal records check. If that prevents foreign nationals from driving a cab so be it,” he said, according to The Daily Express.
