Poilievre: "We believe money belongs to the people who earned it"

Brian LilleyArchive

The federal budget offered Canadians a range of tax cuts this week but that has the opposition parties attacking Stephen Harper and the Conservatives, claiming the tax cuts will cost too much money.

I spoke to Pierre Piolievre, the government's point man on this issue, to get to the bottom of the question -- is it government money or our money?

As well, Piolievre explains the difference between RSPs and Tax Free Savings Accounts and why so many lower to middle income Canadians favour the latter.

“Money belongs to the people who earn it.”
What a novel idea. Does this mean that the person who gets up everyday and goes to work, whether he/she feels like it or not, actually should have more access to their earnings than the person who likely doesn’t get up at all, doesn’t bother to lower him/herself to the level of the working person, but feels that they are entitled to the proceeds of others?

Poilievre: “We believe money belongs to the people who earned it”
Refreshing. Contrast that with the statement in the Commons by Marc Lalonde, a finance minister in the Liberal Government of Pierre Trudeau who told everyone that the Liberal Government regarded money earned by working Canadians belonged to the Liberals! Someone should pin Trudope with this question and see if we can get an answer!

“The left is rarely right:)”

Yes, too true. And they are also rarely correct.

Communist masters know the proletariat get a handout from them. Socialists also believe resources and means of production are controlled by the state for ‘redistribution’. Since you’re subject to their goodwill, largely a serf, if they could tax you 100% and make themselves exempt they probably would. The left is rarely right:)

Yes, Liza, you are right. The first 26 seconds says it all. His comment must have been unexpected as there was not the usual childish hollering in the background.

Pierre Piolievre, thank you for clearly stating that it is our money.

The first 23 seconds says it. Therein lies the difference between the socialists and the conservatives. Pierre Piolievre really holds his own in Question period as well.

Pierre Piolievre’s narrative, “They believe cutting taxes is a cost. We believe that cutting taxes is a savings. The difference is they believe that the money belongs to the government and the bureaucracy. We believe that it belongs to the people who earned it” is something that the Conservative Party should keep reiterating over and over up unto the time of the election.

The problem with the Liberals and the NDP’s that have their knickers in a knot, is the fact that middle class Canadians are putting aside their OWN EARNED money into TFSA’s to save for their own enjoyment. That means the Libs and NDP’s CANNOT get their grubby, grasping hands on it! Thanks, Brian and Pierre for clarifying for all Canadians that it is OUR money that we are saving!

What a novel idea! My money belongs to me! Liberals think that money floats around in the air and those who have lots of it have selfishly grabbed it away from others. The concept of people actually earning their money is completely foreign to them because that’s not how they get their money.

I’ll take the money, thank you. All the left will do is blow it.
