Political elite: Opposition leader’s “billionaire lifestyle” makes her “Trudeau-Lite”

Holly NicholasRebel Commentator Holly Nicholas

It recently came to light that Rona Ambrose, leader of the opposition, was herself on a billionaire’s yacht, while criticizing Justin Trudeau for not being able to resist a billionaire lifestyle

Justin Trudeau is actually a celebrity, having grown up on the cover of magazines with an an actress mom who reportedly had an affair with Rolling Stone’s Mick Jagger. We’re quite used to Trudeau acting like a celebrity, rubbing shoulders with billionaires and elites. But Rona Ambrose?

Sure, she ran it by the ethics office and they said it was allowed, clarifying that she didn’t have to report any gifts or benefits unless they were related to her role as an MP. But do you think Rona thought about the optics?

Does she have room to criticize Trudeau? Because it appears Rona Ambrose can’t resist the billionaire lifestyle either.

Watch my video as I detail Ambrose’s critique of Trudeau while having herself been on board billionaire Murray Edwards’ yacht.

Edwards made his fortune from the oil sands and is part owner of the Calgary Flames. He’s no stranger to politics – he once supported the NDP’s carbon tax and then moved overseas to London.

It must be nice having all these billionaire friends and this isn’t the first time Ambrose has showed signs of entitlement. She led expense claims across the board for the first half of 2016, coming in at $320,000. Before moving into Stornaway, she also claimed almost $10,000 over a few months for a $2,000 per month condo.

Rona Ambrose can’t resist the billionaire lifestyle and in that respect, I don’t think she’s any different than the Prime Minister - billionaires, yachts, outrageous travel expenses – she’s Justin Trudeau-lite.

I agree Al Peterson, Trost is someone I like but he does not present well. If he is unable to present well what are his chances against the liberals? He needs to step up his game.
The ‘Islamic elephant’ in the room is first on my list also. Unless we get that issue in check nothing else will matter in my opinion. Which is kind of a crazy thing to say considering there are so many really important issues on the table this time around. But Islam is Canada’s BIGGEST problem. It trumps all other issues.

When Ambrose became leader of the opposition 14 months ago, I didn’t think she was great, but I thought she would do for a while, until the real thing was voted in. Then I noticed some people posting that she should walk across the floor to join the Liberals. Those people were so correct, as Ambrose has given a new and shaky Trudeau an easy ride.
I hate to say it, but Mulcair would have given him a much rougher ride.

Hi Holly. That was some great reporting. I love it when the rebel comes down hard on the right.

Leviticus 2013.
I shouldn’t have to ferret Trust out on his website. Is the man not capable of presenting himself to the public? At least Kellie Leitch stands for pepper spray and and a unified Canada, screening for Canadian values etc. I am not saying she is my first choice but she gets her message out.

My first choice will be the one who clearly speaks against the islamic elephant in the room. So far its just and the crickets.

She’s a Red Tory. Always has been and has shown her true colors since she has tried to distance herself and the CPC from Stephen Harper. Most Conservatives I know did not have the problems with the past PM that the demonizing smear job done by the media caused the election of Junior.

“Would be nice to have a conservative Conservative party.
Maybe if Brad Trost wins the party leadership he will pull the party back from the left precipice into right field again, but I am not going to hold my breath waiting for the Conservative to return to conservatism any time soon. What a serious disappointment. "

Well stated.
Totally agree.

Rona Rona Rona. You are an increasing thorn in the side of the conservative party. Just another duplicitous politician. A pious, unctuous elitist who scolds Canadians. A hypocrite. Calling her Trudeau lite is more politeness than she deserves. I knew she was Trudeau lite months ago when she was trying to shame conservatives at the Conservative Conference in the fall of 2016, into accepting that the party needed to be left of centre. Not her words, but her meaning. Just another liberal in disguise on the same list as many. Chong, O’leary, O’toole, Raitt,Peterson to name a few.

Well said, Holly. So a $320,000 expense claim for the first*Half of 2016! Mind boggling.
It harkens me to think of her chastisement of 3,000 freezing & unemployed Albertans in front of the legislature grounds; with her “idiots!” remark on her way to a meeting in parliament. Plebians indeed, lol!
I don’t think they will forget. What a disaster she is turning out to be. Missing in action.

Trudeau was chauffeured around to and from school during his university days. He has no clue what the rest of us go through. It will be interesting to see his next broken promise of decriminalizing bud.

Sally Citizen: I agree. Now I realize why she could have possibly made that statement about Albertans….because she is wealthy.

I’ve always liked Rona Ambrose, except when she brought in the RU-486 abortion pill which will now kill babies and women on their bathroom floors, but she should have accepted a lavish invitation while she is in the position as interim PC leader despite having run it by the ethics office.
This would have been a perfect example for her to use to demonstrate that politicians can actually say ‘no’.
It is not only an embarrassment for those who support the PCs, it invalidates our goals and efforts.

Our swamps is extremely clogged! It’s not about the best interests of Canada as much as it is about the extravagant and prestigious lifestyle.

I’ve been disappointed in Ambrose and the whole Conservative party since she took over and we lost Mr Harper.
If this conservative party stays like it is at present we don’t stand a chance in the next election.
Vote Trost.

My last post was what I didn’t like about this. Now, what I like: I can pretty much guarantee that at some point in any discussion (argument) with a lefty a comment is made about something that a conservative said or did that’s somehow connected (in their minds, anyway) with whatever the left wing person who said or did something relevant to the discussion, with the phrase “your hero”. As in, “your hero Ambrose did the exact same thing as Trudeau”. Then I have to explain that right wing heros are never politicians, they’re soldiers and tradespeople and entrepreneurs who get up and go to work in the morning. It’s people who sacrifice to make life better for their fellow man, or even for a single person. Churchill, Lincoln, Macdonald, sure, successful politicians but if they’re heroes to conservatives it’s not because they were politicians but rather because of the stands they took as human beings that make them heroic to conservatives. It’s nice to point to articles like this to prove that point. You’re not going to see a lot of articles like this about Trudeau on CBC. At least, not yet.

Sorry Holly, I can’t agree with you on this. Ambrose’s complaint against Trudeau was more about the rules than the lifestyle. The key words were “can’t resist”, not “billionaire lifestyle”. She had no reason to resist. Sure the optics are off but the point remains. Since when are conservatives worried so much about optics? I thought that was what Liberals were for. She said Trudeau broke the rules, and she was right. This is just a deflection, and it serves no purpose other than for what I’m going to say next: you, and those who agree with you on this, are just eat-the-rich jealous. At least, that’s the optics I’m getting from you. You say it’s wrong for the leader of the opposition to live in a $2000/month condo? Are you serious? I’m from the prairies, so I get the impression that 2 grand gets you a broom closet in any of the cities in central Canada. I have no problem with the leader of the opposition living in a condo in that price range. Would you rather she live in a parking garage? And her reasons for going on the holiday she went on is pretty much, word for word, the exact same reasons Trudeau went on his holiday with his billionaire friend. On the surface that looks bad, but Rona’s not the Prime Minister, Justin is. She could have tweeted about that from the lunar surface sipping champagne from St. Jack’s hollowed out skull, it doesn’t matter because her message wasn’t about the lifestyle, it was about his not being able to resist it. When you go on and on about how unfair it is that her partner happens to be friends with a billionaire you just sound whiney and jealous. Stay focused on the differences Holly.

HOLLY ! Gutsy reporting

I wonder how many yachts are going to be hi and dry when the swamp gets drained ??
commented 2017-02-09 13:09:38 -0500
It seems that the outrageous salaries that we pay politicians, just isn’t enough to feed their egos, and fill their pockets. They come to think that they deserve every perk, not realizing that they are compromising their positions, and their integrity. Rona has proven this, just like every other crooked politician ever elected to office. The flaw in democracy, is not having a system in place than can remove greedy politicians, like Junior, Rona, Wynnie, Notley, and those who came before them.

My advise to politicians who want to really help, take 2 weeks off, then quit!
commented 2017-02-09 12:29:04 -0500
My thoughts also, Sally Citizen. The swamp needs a draining. They’ll vote for the new onerous loss of free speech bill too. I will resent the whole conservative party for going along with that nonsense.

Al, there is the libertarian Max Bernier but must agree: a politician, is a politician, is a politician, period.

What a laugh. Sounds like King Lear: “I’m more sinned against than sinning”. I’ve said for several years now that Ambrose is a CINO. The conservative parties at all levels and regions have allowed themselves to be infiltrated. I agree with Greig. Time for a swamp draining.

None of the current conservative candidates seems to be trying very hard to distinguish themselves from the CINO herd. Could this be because they are mostly CINOs? Perhaps Kelly Leitch but even then it seems measured.

She is the gold standard for what we now call a “conservative” politician.

The Conservatives can’t afford any ethical problems. Yes, it’s expected with the Libranos, but the media is on their side, and nobody seems to care, except real conservatives.
Man… I miss Harper…
Way to go Rona.

I still can’t get over Ms. Ambrose calling the Edmonton Carbon Tax Protesters “IDIOTS” because of the off the cuff / joke comment of “lock her up”. She (Ambrose) should have stuck up for those Albertans & shone a light on the fact that those people are hurting, suffering job loss, frustrated, feel their voice is unheard, vehemently oppose the carbon tax, & only said that chant in the heat of the moment & in no way did those people actually intend for Ms. Notley to ACTUALLY be locked up! Shame on Ms. Ambrose for throwing those Albertans under the bus!
