POLL: Most Canadians oppose Omar Khadr's relaxed bail conditions

Rebel Staff

As you know, last week a judge in Alberta relaxed confessed terrorist and convicted war criminal Omar Khadr’s bail conditions.

The judge took off Khadr's tracking anklet, removed police monitoring software from his computer -- and he's now allowed to fly on planes, too.

We set up, petitioning the government to appeal. We also raised funds to do a survey, so Canadians could express their opinions on this outrageous decision.

Now the results are in:

On removing the tracking bracelet on Khadr’s ankle, 67% of Canadians disagree, 45% strongly. On removing the police software on his computer to allow them to monitor what he’s doing, 71% of Canadians disagree, 49% of them strongly. And 60% of Canadians oppose his right to fly on jets — with a majority of Canadians in every province opposing this:

Thank you for supporting our poll. These are the kinds of questions that you know not a single mainstream media outlet would ask. They’re in love with this celebrity terrorist, just like our courts are.

You BET they do, Mancave. The threads in which there’s a lot of back and forth tend to go on for multiple pages, which means multiple clicks, which means ad revenue. The threads without controversy, in which Rebel readers simply grumble about stooopid commies lefty pig wynne troodoo, and similar cerebral witticism and analysis, never get beyond a page or two – very low revenue. So the Rebel does appreciate this input.

Terry Ruden, you keep coming back. The Rebel thanks you for the support!

I’ve noted that mock polling of this kind is becoming an important contributor to the Rebel’s revenue stream, content and advertising in several ways. It’s strictly marketing. Here’s how they milk it:
-They’ll run an initial story on one of the Rebel’s five or six favourite hobby horse issues (Omar Khadr, the Satanic governments of Ontario, the CBC, whatever), frame their concern with as much synthetic outrage as they can muster, and invite their readership to “do something about it” by funding a poll.
- This invitation links you to another page in their domain (one more click for the advertisers) which invites you to send them money to fund a poll. No breakdown of expenditures is ever provided, so you don’t know how much of your contribution is going to the Rebel and how much to the third party pollster – not that Rebel readers care.
- The same page usually links you to a string of secondary product pages, like the book on the topic they’re trying to flog (one more click, and possibly a sale), or previous stories (click), or a general “donate to us” link (click).
- This approach lets them milk an inane story for at least TWO more stories: an announcement that the “poll” is on (click), and at least one post about the – ahem – “findings”. Click.
- The poll results themselves seldom provide sampling methodology, and the questions I’ve seen have been designed to elicit a specific response. They’re pretty wretched. But the point, of course, is not to “explore” Canadian attitudes; it’s to attract attention to the Rebel, to validate the opinions of its readership, and mostly to generate revenue.
And that’s fine. It’s a business, and I think the smarter folks reading this site understand how the game is played. But for those who take this as serious ‘Investigative" reporting – don’t kid yourselves. It’s advertising.

With his new found freedom, I encourage Khadr to do a speaking tour in the States.

A completely biased poll by a less than reputable polling group. I suspect that 100% of respondents wouldn’t even know who Omar is? What about the percentage of people who are unsure? Of the 1500 people polled all had a clear cut answer to a difficult question. That is absolute Bull shit. Let’s get some real facts on this one RM. I have followed this case from the inset 14 years ago but know nothing about Khadr’s rehabilition as I am sure you don’t. What is his assessed threat to Canadian society? Is there a risk of recidivism? So many questions that need to be asked and weren’t here to add bias to the end result – poor work here. This definitely gets a failing grade – F.

I’ve noticed that the insults usually start to fly when a point is raised that folks don’t actually want to address – like, for instance, the validity of an elective poll from a biased source. I take that as affirmation that the point has been made.
commented 2015-09-26 07:38:44 -0400
Thank you for proving my point Terry.

Hyachinth: LOL. Not quite. I find it funny.
About that polling: I ask about the methodology because Sun Media used to be fond of putting polls on their own website, then trumpeting the findings as “84% of Canadians think…”. That’s simply not valid: any such poll will simply echo the editorial perspective of the poll’s origin. So I’m wondering how this one was compiled.

The left enjoy attention even though the majority of the attention they elicit is negative, they suffer from delusions of grandeur as well as that of reality.
They do fear The Rebel because it shines like a beacon and reveals what the mainstream media wants hidden. So it is no wonder that the left are drawn to it like moths to a candle.

@jimmy-DUH-NAZI-PIG – it’s good that you are able to formulate an opinion – but your NAZI PIG opinion is more suited to some of the sites you listed – CBC, torstar, etc.

And it’s good of you to compare the CBC (TV, radio, $1 billion in government welfare per year, around for over 60 years) and torstar (they are still laying people off) to Rebel Media – a crowd sourced website. Do us a favour @jimmy-DUH-NAZI-PIG – call up CBC and torstar and make the comparison you just made below, to them.

Say something like, “Hey CBC, you have more traffic than Rebel Media”. Do it at least three hundred times.

Fact: The Rebel, in 100 days, had more traffic than a well funded macleans shit rag – a brand that is about 100 years old.

Yes, @jimmy-DUH-NAZI-PIG, your comments are fun to laugh at – but keep blogging here asshole – Ezra and Brian appreciate all the CPM revenue you can generate – click on a few ads too.

Jimmy, you are a kooky lefty attention whore. You lefties must feel very threatened by this website or else why would you keep coming back to this "not so popular "site? Tell us why Jimmy, why do you need keep checking on this kooky site? Are you having night mares of The Rebel taking over the world? If you do not like the tea that is being served at this “Tea Party”, go try another tea some where else.
commented 2015-09-26 00:30:05 -0400

I am glad that you could see instantly – what I have been saying for a while now: The Rebel is mostly for extreme kooky conservatives. Yes, Canada’s Tea Party so to speak.
commented 2015-09-26 00:22:04 -0400
Sorry Bravo, but that traffic ranking was a VERY SHORT spike.

The Rebel – 1,023

Macleans – 772

Toronto Star – 59

CBC – 20

Holy shit – look how popular CBC is.

Facts are a wonderful thing.

I would also like to see polling methodology and sample selection.

Amazing what a losing football club will do to raise the that fighting spirit lol

Lefties are Islamic collaborators don’t you know. And way to go Saskatchewan with the highest poll numbers!!!!! To the good of course

Bravo Zulu, well said in both of your comments to Khadr’s groupies. Patrick and Dougie, do not choke on that humble pie that was dished out to both of you. You may want to wash it down with that funny kool aid that you lefties like to drink.
commented 2015-09-25 23:22:38 -0400
@ Renegade98 – no sense in falsifying the data – it would be too easy to prove it was falsified – so – suck it up.

Believe it – or not – there are some folks out there that do not approve of letting a murdering POS loose in the country.

Or return to the cbc – a tax payer funded and serious “comment censoring” news outlet. If you want to get a comment on their boards you have to toe the party line completely.
commented 2015-09-25 23:17:49 -0400
I don’t believe that poll.
commented 2015-09-25 23:14:29 -0400
@ Alex Armutlu – I read it in one of the articles put out on this site – and if it was not true someone would have slammed Ezra for it – so I am saying – until I am corrected by this site and its owners that yes – there is funding sent to MacLeans. Tax dollar funding.

If I am wrong I am prepared to make a full retraction.

Bet I am not.
commented 2015-09-25 23:09:00 -0400
Bravo Zulu,
Are you saying that Paul Wells of Macleans gets government aid. That Trudeau loving prick
commented 2015-09-25 23:04:44 -0400
I wonder what Khadr has in mind for the future? I wonder what Khadr’s handler has in mind for him? Nothing good I suspect.

Speaking of polling methodology,
When I use to watch “Power and Politics with Evan Soloman”. I always wondered why the polls in their ?Ballot Box" questions always extremely favored the left. Then I found out that they polled at 1:00 pm when most taxpayers were working. So the questions were being asked to all the pot smoking, mushroom eating, Dizzy Lizzy supporting, David Suzuki loving, EI collecting, welfare receiving, Catherine Porter style Canadians. Probably at some environmental protest where most have no clue what they are protesting. CBC you make good use of our tax dollars.

@ Patrick Truelove – seems this site has far more traffic than the socialist lefty rag MacLeans – which also survives on government funding – this site is self funding. Tells me times are changing and you might have to try and catch the last train out – or be left standing at the station.

And by attacking rather than adding to the conversation as a newb you simply show that you are not worthy of much.

Have you collected your welfare cheque this month?

In the end it is like this – Many Canadians are tired of being told they are assholes because they do not agree with the lefty libs and folks like you. Emphasized by 82% of the Canadian population disagreeing with the courts decision on niqabs and citizenship swearing in. Yet defended by libs and dippers who are for the most part (and with very few exceptions) not worth the sweat off of any working man’s balls.

That percentage is even higher in Quebec.

Canadians are slowly waking up to the fact the left is f**king Canada over in a big way.

You might make fun of people here – however the Tea Party is the reason in many ways there is such a change in the US of A presidential run – make fun of people like that – but it is coming to Canada as well. You might make fun of Trump – but he is killing the socialists in the ratings.

Perhaps it is you that needs a good kick in the nuts to wake up – but it is probably a lost cause – after all – what have you done for your country?

Go cash that welfare cheque and then come back here and send me a zinger.

You probably truly want the last word – don’t you……..

Hugs and kisses sweetie.

Sorry Doug – I seldom want to even acknowledge you as you relish it when someone does.

However, I do not believe for a moment that scum had a 100% pro-bono lawyer who did it all for nothing – someone had to be passing him cash – I bet there was more than a little tax payer money in there somewhere – and I admit I have no proof of this – just suspicion – and none of us – including you (whom I rate lower than the lawyer and his client) – however you believe what you want. Opposition parties helped that scum by stating words like – “child soldier” and " disadvantaged" and they encouraged the media to jump on anyone who did not agree with the courts – in other words playing politics. In the islam world you are a man when you have hair around your balls.

In all actuality I sometimes wonder what country you live in – La La Land perhaps.

If you had actually served your country and been productive rather than leading an entitled life perhaps you could actually be someone I could respect – however as it is you can blather all day long – if you were broke down miles from no where at 40 below you are a person I could easily drive past.

Enjoy the day.

Come back with a zinger – it amuses the others.

Waiting ……….

Oh my! Just came across this site. Nice to see that Canada has it’s own branch of Tea Party crazies. Better stay well under the radar, guys, for Stephen Harper’s sake.

Ever notice how the left jump to attack The Rebel and its readers when their left wing utopian view of Canada is dispelled by a poll or article. They cannot stand that average Canadians do not buy into their delusions, they feel threatened and so have to lash out.
