Last weekend, an activist named Duncan Kinney, of a far left advocacy group called Progress Alberta, gave a speech at the Alberta Federation of Labour’s annual convention.
In that speech, he said (and I’m quoting), “We are the organization that kicks conservatives in the teeth."
Well, that doesn’t sound very nice.
Kinney explained his comments as part of a bigger point. He told Metro Edmonton:
“After that I detailed campaigns and efforts we’d undergone in order to show how effective we are as an independent non-profit organization,” ...“What we referenced directly after that was non-instances of violence but instances where we used facts to bring conservative politicians down a peg.”
Kinney wants to make the point that there is a greater context to his remarks about kicking conservatives in the teeth and I’ll take him at his word.
I’ll be fair in a way that is never afforded to our side.
Would a conservative ever be able to explain away a clumsy phrase as part of the bigger picture and everyone would just be fine with it?
Let’s just stop and imagine what the mainstream media and the NDP would do if Ezra Levant said he was going to kick Rachel Notley in the teeth. CBC would go supernova.
The lack of consistency from our progressive overlords annoyed me so I sent emails to the AFL and two NDP ministers who were at the AFL convention. I wanted to know if they were outraged by what Kinney has said, the way they would be if a conservative had uttered those words.
All I got was deafening silence.
And I’m not the speech police, anyway. I hate that stuff.
But what I do care about is the hypocrisy of the NDP, with their rules for us that they don't follow themselves. And I care about how the mainstream media lets the NDP get away with this double standard, and how the mainstream media has a double standard of their own.
