MLA Sohail Quadri held a big bash in his honour and laid a $5000 bill on the taxpayers' table.
Sohail Quadri, PC MLA for Edmonton-Mill Woods is facing a tough battle against the NDP in his re-election campaign and this spending scandal is not helping his cause.
Quadri told the Rebel.Media, he threw the party for 500 friends to mark his one year anniversary as MLA, not realizing it would cause so much controversy.
Despite admitting his mistake, Quadri says he has no intention of paying back the $5000.00 he expensed for the big bash.
Wildrose Party leader Brian Jean says Quadri would be in a lot more trouble if he was a federal MP.
"Absolutely, no question at all. If he was at the federal government level, he would be at the same place Mike Duffy is today. He would be facing charges in my opinion. He would have to give back the money for certain," says Jean.
Edmonton resident Mike Taliani couldn't believe anybody, even a rookie MLA could be so cavalier with the taxpayers money.
"Taxpayers should not have to pay money for anybody's party," says Taliani.
Quadri says it was misunderstanding on his part, not an intentional abuse of taxmoney.
Voters will render a verdict election day May 5th.
