Thousands gathered in Quebec City tonight for a vigil to honour the six people killed at a Quebec City mosque yesterday.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau began his remarks at the service with an audible sigh followed by the Arabic greeting, “As-salamu alaykum.” He then told Muslims that they remained welcome in Canada.
Trudeau was joined by Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard and federal opposition leaders on stage with a program that included several Muslim prayers.
In the wake of the terrorist attack, pundits and politicians have rushed to social media to label the accused a right wing extremist, pointing to “likes” on Alexandre Bissonnette’s Facebook page, which includes President Donald J. Trump and French politician Marine Le Pen.
Consequently, I asked mourners at the Quebec City vigil what role, if any, President Trump played in the terrorist attack in their own backyard. Their answers will shock you.
I also reminded attendees of initial witness reports that alleged— not one— but two assailants entered their mosque yelling, “Allahu Akbar!” before opening fire.
As developments surrounding Canada’s latest terrorist attack take shape with each passing hour, several crucial questions remain:
Was there more than one perpetrator? Who would have shouted "Allah Akbar"? And why did police keep Mohamed Belkhadir overnight if he was just a witness?
