Question of the Day: Should Canada expand its military mission against ISIS?

Emily PrattRebel Correspondent

As the House of Commons prepares to vote this evening, I took to Toronto's streets to ask if Canada should extend its military intervention against ISIS.

Canada should take a lead role in wiping out the ISIS.

Oh Brother asking the man in the street in Toronto? Our Canadian Forces need to be a part of sending the ISIS boys to a very early grave so they can collect on their 72 virgins. Good luck with that too. Those who think we have no stake in this game are sadly deluded. If those idiots are not destroyed now where they are they will eventually be over here bombing Toronto subways. Okay, they are probably planning it already. Canada does not exist in a dream world remote from all the nasty things happening in the ME or the EU. We need to do our part to crush those dolts.

I think it’s an error for Canada to extend it’s mission in the Middle East. Politically, it’s a gamble that could come back to haunt the Conservatives, but more to the point….Canada is not calling any shots, and the ones that are don’t seem to have a comprehensive strategy on how to deal with the current crisis.

I understand the desire to ‘do something’, and I certainly do not believe Canada should balk at committing its forces to support allies….but at the end of the day, I would just like to know that there was a point to that aid. Personally, I think the Middle East needs to fight this out among themselves until they are tired of fighting and want to join the 21st century.

Offer Israel admission into NATO and may the best tinpot dictatorship win……

The only (& I mean only) problem I have is the exit strategy. We don’t have one. I thought of this when talking to my wife yesterday, comparing Nazi Germany to today’s ISIS. There was a visible head of the Nazis, Hitler. Who do we have to kill to take out the head of ISIS? I have no idea, I’ve never heard a name mentioned on any news source, other than that idiot Brit who was beheading people and he’s just an executioner, not the boss. That’s the problem for me. We could kill every single soldier ISIS has and there would just be more soldiers. As the caliphate it can compel any Muslim anywhere to act on it’s behalf, because to them it’s acting on Allah’s behalf, and that pretty much trumps everything else. I can only think of one solution, and it has two problems: it aint pretty, and it’s the exact diametric opposite of what they want to do with us, which makes us no better than them, kinda. It starts with Islam, unfortunately. If only they didn’t have such an exclusionary attitude. Oh well.

The real threat is from Putin. This action from east to west is to distract from north to south. Russia will invade to the US if we don’t hunker down our borders. They’re gonna flank us. He wants to bring Obama to his knees before his term is up. While I support a full scale invasion, we need to keep our home secure. Thanks Harper for standing up for us and the suffering. God keep our land, glorious and free

We raised our children to be nice people…..we in the men’s rights movement have made a very distressing and disappointing discovery…nice guys are a problem.

Neville Chamberlain was a nice guy…Winston Churchill was not.

Voting for somebody because you think he is a nice guy is the stupidest thing you can do in a democracy …for one thing it is just too easy to be a nice guy with other people’s money.

After the fall of Constantinople it took the ruthlessness of Vladimir Dragulia (Vlad the Impaler) to stop the Islamist expansion of that era.

When they were at the gates of Vienna Jan Sobieski did what nobody on either side thought he would do…he massacred the Jannisaries (who were Christian hostages used in the front lines)

I do not despair that our troops will not fight…..I despair that they will be saddled with rules of engagement that will prevent them from winning.

Bomb the hell out of them. Drop off any traitorous Canadians prior to.

2 for involvement, 5 against involvement, 2 abstentions. I wonder what those who are against our involvement would say if it was us and children and loved ones who were being butchered by a bunch of barbarians. Would it still be OK if no other nation stepped in to help us out? See, that’s why Liberals and NDPs get elected; Canada has way to many nincompoops.

Yes go get the murderous thugs, on their own turf.

PM Chamberlain showed us what happens when you do not take action against mass murderers before the second world war. The Boy Blunder and Angry Tom want to repeat that mistake and it would appear that the citizens of Toronto don’t have a clue about what is going on! I personally am happy that more ISIS members will be introduced to the business end of our CF 18’s!

@ James – “… peace keeping what peace is he referring to?”
If he tried to do peace keeping with ISIS, he would be end up doing pieces keeping with his body.
When will people learn that ISIS has no interest in negotiating or keeping the peace. If we do not covert exactly to their way of life, they will murder us at their first opportunity. No conscience or morals whatsoever.

But I partially blame the main stream media for the response of those people. I think that if they got the truth from the MSM they would have responded differently. Why partially? Because it is also the responsibility of the people to keep themselves informed of the world around them and all points of view, left, right, center and all shades in-between.

Firstly where did you take the survey? Not one person that you asked was in favour of the Canadian peace making efforts in Iraq, That means the people you asked are in favour of chopping off hands heads arms legs burning people alive stoneing people to death throwing gays off tall buildings child marrages.
Canada’s 6 CF-18s are doing a great job overthere but unfortunatly they are under the control of Obama they should be bombing them 24/7 day and night. Are we there to win I think not. The Islamis have declared war on the civilized world and it’s too bad the other major country leaders ie. The U.S.A. , Britain are too politicaly correct to win and they only want to pin prick these low lives.
As far as commiting ground troops to fight ISIS, not until our"allies" elect men or woman with the balls to win this war by letting our men to fight ISIS with no hold bars shoot any one with a beard behead there commanders track down the murdering bastards and burn them alive lihe they do to our allies. Sow the wind, so shall they reap the whilwind.
Any person who calls himself a Canadian should support our peace makeing efforts in Iraq agaist ISIS I do.

So many people think if we bury our heads in the sand the problems will go away or let somebody else take care of it, the one idiot says we should only be peace keeping what peace is he referring to?
commented 2015-03-30 18:59:24 -0400
Of course we should extend the mission. For those people that say that we should not be involved – I say to you ’ hope you never have to find out on a personal level just how bad ISIL really is’ . You people don’t understand what that war is all about. You have not paid attention to the threats made by ISIS or ISIL on Canadians. You are a bunch of complacent people with your heads buried in the sand. I just hope you never live to regret your idiot complacency.
How can anyone that has seen or heard of the horrific actions of these animals be so complacent and not want to help the helpless that are suffering these horrors on a daily basis. Just yesterday or the day before the news reported that Boko Haram (I’m not sure I spelled that right) murdered hundreds of people before an election. Boko Haram has sworn alliance to ISIL, so they are the same. If ISIL can be wiped of the face of the earth, then groups like Boko Haram have no place to go and will be taken care of eventually.
Mr. Harper gets my full vote. I wish there was something I could do to help annihilate these monsters.

I agree 100 percent to Canada getting more involved. It is a must. It seems that we are far from our parents and grand parents when it comes to courage and determination.

Do we have the Syrian government’s permission to “invade” their airspace? It’s been known for a long time that we’ve left Syria alone because Harper won’t support Assad… or the Al-Qaeda/ISIS/Hamas/whoever else rebels…
