Alberta NDP candidate for Calgary-Varsity Anne McGrath is censoring me. She is pulling out all of the stops to make sure that you don’t hear one message: Anne McGrath is a communist.
Her experience running Rachel Notley’s NDP government from behind the scenes these last few years does not negate the fact that in 1984, at a terrifying time for Canadians during the Cold War, McGrath supported the ideology of Stalin, Mao, and Marx. In my opinion, that is treachery.
McGrath is so afraid of this message getting out, she called the police on me for asking her questions while she campaigned in a Calgary neighborhood.
But this attempt to control the message extends onto the internet as well: Messages directly between The Rebel and subreddit moderators on Reddit have confirmed that there was a site-wide filter on all posts with the text string “Anne McGrath”.
Further in McGrath’s censorship plan, residents of Calgary - Varsity have reported that their United Conservative Party lawn signs have been stolen — and replaced with NDP signs. It is not clear if the McGrath campaign is behind this but it does have one resident, Joanne Burrows, upset. WATCH as I talk to her about what happened on her property.
Calgary-Varsity is a university riding. A large student and faculty population make outcome predictions difficult to make. As a swing seat and with current polling data, if McGrath is elected she will be one of only a few NDP candidates to win in Calgary.
