Funny how anti-gun activists always talk about prevention, yet, they don’t want to apply the same logic to pregnancy.

Birth control requires a conscious effort and personal responsibility. Why is there such support from “progressives” for the bigotry of low expectations for women and the men they sleep with?!!!!

Andrew how about they use birth control or common sense and be responsible first.

Andrew Stephenson self defense is controlling your own body.

Andrew, I guess you are not familiar with the landmark ruling by the Supreme Court of the United States
District of Columbia ET AL V Heller (2008)

The second amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self defense in the home.

Any… You’re so naïve… Controlling your own body does not keep a rogue government from forming and removing your liberties and then executing anybody who disagrees with him like the Stalin years.. "

Not being able to control your own body is one of those liberties a rogue government would take away. That, and habeus corpus (ie, not being locked up unfairly) are two of the most basic human rights, far more fundamnetal than rights to own things like weapons. The US’s track record on both security of person, and habeus corpus, is spotted at best – ask the people held without charges at Gitmo about that one. The problem here is, that the second-amendmentalists seem to view the second amendment as the only freedom that actually matters.

The entire “rogue government” argument is somewhat historical revisionist, a narrative told by the NRA and gun manufacturers out of their own self interest. The second amendment refers to well equipped militias, the only form of defense a then vulnerable colonial breakaway really had, and it says nothing about carrying handguns because you’re afraid of getting mugged. In fact, the intent was likely similar to that of the Swiss, where they keep their guns at home, as insurance.

Of course, the entire concept of civilian militias is hopelessly obsolete anyway. Back in 1790, the ultimate military tool was musket-armed cavalry, and farmers also had access to muskets and horses. What does a Second Amendment based revolution look like? A bunch of guys watching as their bullets bounce harmlessly off the side of an armoured tank, or as they shoot at the sky in the hopes of taking down that drone that’s watching them from 10,000 feet. Eventually you have a bunch of guerillas hiding in inaccessible caves, Al-Qaeda style, waiting to be rooted out. If they try to gather, the “rogue government” presses a button in some bunker somewhere and launches a missile, taking out the whole bunch. Your AR15 is useless in that case.

Which is to say, of course, that the second amendment doesn’t actually serve even its subverted purpose, let alone its intended one, which is to keep the King of England from peeing in your bushes.

It’s all about the kids? Planned Parenthood manages the murder of hundreds of children a day and now they contribute money for gun control activists to march on Washington to protect our precious children.
And they claim the moral high ground? Beyond hypocrisy.

I hope the people who want to ban semi-automatic weapons tell the criminals, Muslim terrorists, and nut jobs they can have them either.

When you reply to this please try to stay to the narrative that I’ve laid out

“It’s incredibly ironic how so many anti-gun activists are okay with killing hundreds of thousands of babies every year. "

The corollary to this is how so many pro-gun activists think rights to own guns are more important than the right to control your own body.

Excellent interview with Professor Oliver McGee. I’m very interested in reading the compilation of essays.
