The FBI is investigating the attack of an airport police officer at the Bishop International Airport in Flint, Michigan as an act of terrorism.
The suspect is in custody and has been identified as Amor Ftouhi, 49, of Quebec. Reports say the man yelled “Allahu Akbar” before stabbing the officer. In addition, he said something to the extent of "you have killed people in Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan, and we are all going to die."
Lt. Jeff Neville was the officer attacked. He is out of surgery and in stable condition after being stabbed in the neck.
According to CTV, a neighbour confirmed through a Facebook profile that Ftouhi is a native of Tunisia who lives in Montreal and works at a large insurance company. He added that Ftouhi is a quiet man who had several children.
"It’s an ongoing investigation, there are joint operations going on in Canada as we speak. We want to thank our Canadian partners who are helping us further investigate this attack," FBI Special Agent in Charge David Gelios said.
So far, there is no indication this is part of a “wider plot".
