Public Works Minister Judy Foote, the woman in charge of making sure public procurement is done properly and is supposed to control public spending on such purchases, threw all the rules out the window as she was renovating her office after the Liberals took power.
She and her staff have given verbal approvals for purchases, made last minute requests and made changes that drove up costs, then spent a small fortune in cash and staff time to find a solution to the heating problem in her office.
I found all this in an Access to Information Request. I found other problems in this including the minister’s office and senior public works staff spending days and days, who knows how much time in total, trying to come up with a solution to the minister’s office being cold.
Except that it wasn’t cold, as you’ll find out as I walk you through the whole episode where you’ll see Foote and her office purchased things that weren’t needed, skirted the very purchasing rules they are supposed to enforce on others and spent thousands of your dollars on a problem that didn’t exist.
They are breaking the rules on heating and breaking the rules on how to spend YOUR money.
