Richmond, Nova Scotia official billed taxpayers for visit to Texas strip club

If you did this in the private sector, you'd probably be stripped of a job.

According to the Canadian Press, “A forensic audit has found the chief administrative officer of Municipality of the County of Richmond charged $582 for visits to two Texas strip clubs.”

The report comes from accounting firm Grant Thornton, which examines credit card and expense claims by municipal staff and councillors.

Warren Olsen, the chief administrative officer, visited adult entertainment clubs in Houston. It was listed as “reception/meal”.

Alcohol purchases by staff and councillors totalled just under $8,000. In addition, $75,000 in meal and entertainment purchases included liquor.

The auditors say they couldn't determine the appropriateness of claims due to a lack of documentation.

Dear auditors – I’m not sure where you were trained, but lack of documentation clearly indicates inappropriateness – in the real world. But of course, if these officials are allowed to make monetary claims without receipts, I’m sure everyone would agree, that the city should just take them at their word.
