Rome Mayor Virginia Raggi wants to stop migrants from coming into the city because of already high social tensions over the costs associated with setting up additional reception centres.
According to The Daily Mail, Raggi said it's “time to listen to the citizens of Rome”.
“We cannot permit the creation of more social tensions,” she wrote on Facebook. “That is why I am saying it is impossible, risky even, to think about creating any new reception structures,” she added.
Sadly, the ministry is asking all Italian municipalities to expand their reception facilities because it is expected that 250,000 migrants will arrive in 2017, up from 181,436 last year.
For Rome's sake, hopefully she gets her way.
