Canada's Heritage Minister thinks the greatest accomplishment of the first one hundred days of the Trudeau Liberals is tone and listening. What?
Melanie Joly, a Liberal MP from Montreal and Heritage Minister tweeted: The greatest success of our first 100 days is the tone that we have adopted as a govt, the fact that we're listening to the public.
Joly says the Liberals are listening. Are they listening to the Albertans demanding the Liberals approve pipelines so we can get the country back to work? No. They can't even give us a straight answer about Energy East.
Joly said “tone” is a success, a day after Husky Energy let go of another 400 people in their Calgary office. That’s nearly 2,000 people laid off by Husky in recent months. Can these people, or any of the of the 100,000 unemployed Albertans pay their bills with a gentler tone? No. Sunny ways won't pay the bills but energy sector jobs do.
Are the liberals listening to the majority of Canadians who want our air force to continue their successful airstrikes against the Islamic State? No. The Liberals are ignoring the 63% of Canadians who either want our airstrikes to continue or want airstrikes to increase.
Are the Liberals listening to security experts who are saying the Islamic State will exploit the refugee crisis to attack the American homeland? No. It's full steam ahead at breakneck speed. The Liberals will even evict our military from their bases to make sure Canada meets some arbitrary refugee goal.
But maybe Joly is right. Maybe that’s it. Maybe a delusional sunny tone in the face of so many reasons to be somber and serious is the best the Liberals can do.
If sunny ways and open ears are your biggest accomplishment as a government, you need to try harder.
