On last night's episode of The Ezra Levant Show, I explained why Conservative Party leader Andrew Scheer should make Maxime Bernier the party's point-man on ending supply management in Canada's dairy sector.
The Scheer/Bernier feud reminds Ezra of the Liberal Party infighting between Prime Minister Jean Chretien and Finance Minister Paul Martin; Chretien gave Martin the most challenging portfolio and made use of his financial acumen. The strategy worked and the Liberals remained united for a decade.
Scheer should take a lesson from Chretien and put Bernier in a position to fight the powerful Quebec dairy lobby he claims to oppose. If Scheer's right about the fight being political suicide, he'll have removed a major leadership opponent.
