Normally I don’t express joy when a media organization shuts down, even one whose views I strongly disagree with.
But Al Jazeera is not a real journalistic organization. It is owned by the dictatorship of Qatar, an OPEC emirate.
Two years ago, they spent half a billion dollars buying an American branch — Al Jazeera America. It started out as CBC Newsworld International; that was then bought by Al Gore and turned into Current TV; that was then sold to Al Jazeera for a whopping half a billion dollars.
Al Gore became one of America’s richest men by taking money from an oil dictatorship. What a hypocrite.
Qatar’s dictators spent an unfathomable two billion dollars on the channel, including paying cable companies to carry them.
But on any given day, they’d be lucky to get 50,000 viewers. We have more than that here at the Rebel. And, yeah, we didn’t need two billion dollars for it.
A lot of people got rich off Al Jazeera America: Al Gore, and second-tier Canadian journalists like Ali Velshi, Avi Lewis and Tony Burman. Those last two came from the CBC.
Think about that — what it means that our state broadcaster was a perfect farm team for Qatar’s state broadcaster!
