Secret oil sands deal PLUS David Goldman, a.k.a. "Spengler"

Rebel Staff

Four oil tycoons signed a secret deal with four environmental lobbyists -- and that's why Alberta has a carbon tax.

There was a great story in today’s Financial Post, by Claudia Cattaneo:

"Secret deal on oilsands limits divides patch."

The story is one touched on immediately after Rachel Notley unveiled her massive carbon tax in Alberta.

At the time, I couldn't figure out why two major oil companies would show up for her announcement.

Now we're finding out why, and the situation raises a lot of legal and ethical issues.

This deal isn't just about the destruction of Canada’s great economic engine, it’s the formalization of bribes and pay-offs to lobbyists and insiders.

We have to fight back, now more than ever. Please join our fight at

My guest tonight is one of my favourite writers: David Goldman, better known as "Spengler," who writes about foreign affairs for the Asia Times Online and elsewhere.

We talk about the Paris terror attacks, whether or not we should cheer Putin's attacks on ISIS and more.

It's a thought provoking conversation with one of the clearest, most insightful thinkers around!

READ Ezra Levant's bestselling books debunking environmentalist propaganda against the energy industry:
Groundswell: The Case for Fracking and Ethical Oil: The Case for Canada's Oil Sands

The NDP budget is a disaster. 50,000 are out of work. Investment is fleeing the province.

That was very informative on the politics of the Muslim issues that are very hard to understand. We can sometimes get caught up in absolutes and half truths, especially when listening to mainstream media, so thanks for having Mr Goldman on to provide some insight.

Hi, so nice to finally get in! I had trouble signing in for a long time. Listen, I watch the rebel, including the Ezra Levant show, because it’s such a relief to hear sanity. I often feel like I am losing my mind when I speak to others and especially when I watch or listen to the media. Even my city councillor makes me feel like I live in some bizzaro world.
I research muslims on the internet and find scary stuff about how they are segregating themselves in my own city. There are muslims here in my neighbourhood, all dressed in their goofy rags (sad), but none of them speak to me. No “excuse me” when they bump by me in the grocery store, no meeting of the eyes and smile or say hello. Most don’t speak English. Fortunately, they are now moving to the burbs, and I will have my neighbourhood back again.
I want you to know that I worked with a one-on-one literacy program, trying desperately to teach muslim women English. They were cold, worse, they were pathetic. None of these people could read and write even their own language and none of them had spent even one day in school. I don’t want, un-educable muslims, here.
What people do not understand about the majority of muslims, is that they are pathologically jealous of us. We need to step away and send them back to their countries of origin to figure this out on their own. We can’t fix another person or another people. They are unfixable by us. We teach our children to stand up and do for themselves, yet we, as adults, are blind to this same failing in muslims.

It’s important to understand how this deceptive shell game has nothing to do with lowering carbon emissions because it doesn’t. It’s a smoke and mirrors corrupt shell game scam. The very crux of the main fault of ‘Capitalism’ is at play here, ‘corruption’.
~ Besides playing to the eco-lobby, it is a devious elaborate scheme to launder tax-dollars into political party donations.
~ Big business gets in on the gravy-train too with their back room crony kickback deals with the provincial governments. The tax-dollar laundering formula is the same as the alternate energy (wind-turbine, solar, run of river hydro) scams.
~ Guaranteed they will copy BC’s Carbon Tax example as it’s the model with a track record since 2008 being praised by the worldwide eco-frauds.
~ It was sold to BC as “Revenue Neutral” which was another lie.

The corrupt media and few others have the courage to report on the political shenanigans as millions of our tax-dollars continue to get converted (laundered) into political party coffers as contributions. Some say ‘laundering’ is too harsh a caption, ‘legislated fundraising’? green-washing? That money buys political favours is nothing new but it’s our media’s and justice systems job to keep them reasonably honest. As the justice system is under the influence and control of the same politicians maybe it’s not so surprising these deception scams continue?

Political parties need a lot of money to get elected and the enviro-green-washing aspect is the carrot (smoke screen) ‘buy-in’ to distract us from the conversion of tax dollars into political party contributions.

Political-science cohorts get creative, make it more difficult to follow the money. Some recent examples:

>- A previous BC NDP gov’t. got caught with their own slush fund scandal (laundering/skimming charity bingo money) ‘Bingogate’. Their leader Premier Mike Harcourt resigned and mastermind/fallguy Dave Stupich received a two year sentence.
>- Federally, the Liberals under Jean Chretien got caught with their corrupt ‘Adscam/Sponsorship’ money siphoning scandal which cost taxpayers some $355 million. A few bad actors got 42 months jail-time.
>- Obama, all-time guru of tax-dollar sideways reallocation, plays with billions, (makes BC Liberals look like pikers). Again using green-washing, insider cronies set up deals (with gov’t. guaranteed loans). There were some 20+ ‘green’ energy companies destined to fail like (Solyndra Scandal, $535 million) that kicked back huge campaign donations, some even after filing for bankruptcy.

Great show Ezra! Crony capitalism and socialism are predictable bedfellows. I wonder though, with this news seeing the light of day, will those other energy companies who aren’t in on this dark money agreement not sue the Notley government under rules set out by the Competition Act? This is clearly anti-competitive, though I’m not a lawyer and don’t know what provisions that Act bestows.

Notley is collecting Carbon Taxes on what is, in truth, a myth. There has not been an increase in global temperature for nearly two decades. Any temperature increase that may occur, will be caused by nature. There has never been an increase in global temperature, resulting from man made CO2..

Ezra, these eco creeps are not lobbyists, they are eco terrorist outfits for hire. Making them a criminal organization involved in a shakedown using the old organized crime protection racket of extortion. Don’t let up on this story. We need to know who these outfits are and who’s paying them. We already have the Notely government involved. If we know the whole story we should be able to force them to resign and see the whole works of them thrown in jail for racketeering.

A new version of the Robbin’ Hood tax – rob from the middle-class to give to the poor so that the rich can get really rich. How is it possible? Where is the democratic process? This woman needs to be removed or recalled or something, anything!! Class action suit Albertans Vs Rachel Notley and the Provincial Government of Alberta. We obviously have no representation in the legislative process so we must pursue legal representation.

Dear Diary;
This could be a dangerous precedent; I’ve been caught telling a truth. During the election campaign, I stated that I didn’t need the Universal Chid Care Benefit. It’s so true. Since the common people are paying for my kid’s nannies it’s a benefit that, like I said, I don’t need. So why are people making such a huge fuss about me telling the truth for once? I just don’t understand.
McCallum seems hell bent on not making things easy for me. When he was asked a few days ago; when the first refugees will arrive? He says he’s not sure, and then he adds, “First they’ll be on a plane. Then that plane will be followed by other planes . . .” For crying out loud John, if you keep this up the common people will expect straight answers like that all the time. Gerald’s going to have him babble on to the media about backlash; that should keep me out of trouble for a while.
I really need something else to take my people’s minds off all this. As usual my good chum Gerald pulled through for me. He said there’s something about giving a speech to a throne coming up. I wondered if it would be something like the movie. Gerald’s told me not to worry; he’ll take care of it. All I’ll need to do is sit there and look pretty.

LLRFU – no, I have to disagree with you, this isn’t communism, this is fascism.

Fascism depends upon forcing big businesses into a (junior) partnership with the government. If the business doesn’t behave properly, it will be gutted or destroyed and their place taken by someone who will play ball. Fascism is also based on a belief that societal rights are more important than individual rights. Brownshirts / blackshirts/ greenshirts, there are always those who will use this “we are doing what is best for you” to force their will upon others.

Mercantilism is ruthless as evidenced by our own history in the 1800’s and most of the 1900s. When corporations globalized, government vast tax revenues disappeared.

Big government (as opposed to government) is equally ruthless, raising taxes with no regard to quality of life for the masses.

When these two get together, you have a low grade version of communism.

And when markets collapse, both of these entities will be more ruthless than ever.

Getting better and better all the time. If I were the MSM, I would be siting up and taking notice. The down side to this growth, is that the gremlins and trolls will be slithering here, in order to do the dirty work of the left wind MSM. Oh well, I guess you have to accept that when you’re on target, the flack just gets heavier. Keep up the great work.

One question, I’m planning a short trip to Toronto early in the new year, and was wondering if it is acceptable to drop by and have my picture taken beside one of the bricks with my name on it?

It’s Atlas Shrugged in life. An oligopoly of oil companies makes a deal with the government to seek an advantage over their competitors, buy off their critics, and get the government to do their dirty work for them.

We need to send a message to the oil companies involved in the secret meeting, and stop purchasing fuel at their stations. Not the easiest thing to do, as they refine a lot of the fuel in Western Canada, but people can look at compaines such as Husky or Co-op.

Equiterre and David Suzuki Foundation basically operate as one-in-the-same group. Equiterre is an anti-pesticide & environmental-fanatic organization that is VERY CLOSELY ALLIED with David Suzuki Foundation. According to observers, in 1992-1993, Equiterre was established as an ambassador and public policy shield organization for David Suzuki Foundation in the province of Quebec. Suzuki and Equiterre are basically one-in-the-same group that even operate out of the same location in Montreal. Where did Equiterre originate from ?!?! In 2001, when anti-pesticide prohibition in the town of Hudson was challenged before the Supreme Court of Canada, Ecojustice Canada provided legal counsel for Nature-Action Quebec ( an early version of Equiterre ), as well as Federation of Canadian Municipalities ( managed by some of the same people that now run New Democratic Party of Canada ( NDP ) ), and World Wildlife Fund ( WWF, whose key members now manage Liberal Party of Canada ). Where is Equiterre located ?!?! Equiterre’s office is located in Montreal, in the Centre for Sustainable Development, which officially opened its doors on October 6th, 2011, and is home to eight environmental and social fanatical organizations, including Equiterre, and COINCIDENTALLY, David Suzuki Foundation. The centre is collectively owned by the organizations that occupy the building, including the Quebec headquarters for the David Suzuki Foundation and Amnesty International. Equiterre and Suzuki own the same office building. They operate in tandem on several public policy issues. Quite often, their names are used interchangeably. They regularly issue media releases together in an attempt to deceive the public into believing that they are separate and distinct. Staff from both organizations eat together, get drunk together, and perhaps even have intimate relations together. :-) In essence, Equiterre and Suzuki operate as one-in-the-same group.

We are the National Organization Responding Against HUJE that conspire to destroy the Green space and other industries ( NORAH G ). As a non-profit and independent organization, we are environmentalists who are dedicated to reporting about NON-EXPERT PESTICIDE-HATING FANATICS, as well as the work of RESPECTED and HIGHLY RATED EXPERTS who promote ENVIRONMENTAL REALISM and PESTICIDE TRUTHS. With respect to the French president seemingly being stuck as to what to do because he wants to avoid a civil war, I am reminded of Fram’s marketing slogan for its oil filters, “You can pay me now, or pay me later”!

This about the NDP collecting tax revenue for these four major oil companies. What will happen to this revenue? It will be split between these parties, through a network of kickbacks and bribes. Notley gets her carbon-tax with minimal resistance, and both the industry and government pick up another profit-centre. And these oil companies get to carve up Alberta, put their competitors at a disadvantage, improve their public image, buy-off their critics, and get the government to do their collections for them. Notley, to the surprise of many, is an oil industry hack. Surprise, surprise.

I appreciate you including stories and websites from other news outlets and analysts. It tells me that you are not afraid to give credit were due. It tells me that you value good reporting and scientifically based conclusions, even if you personally, or your team, are not the ones who did them. It tells me that you are not afraid to meet the other guys head on if you disagree. David Goldman is a very interesting guest. Answering a select hate comment, as calmly and as logically as you do, is actually educational. It’s unfair that you are 100% Canadian content, yet CBC is not and yet it gets $1B a year and you get zero from the Liberal government.
