There was a coup of sorts for parents’ rights in Alberta, but you’d never know it if you got all your news from the mainstream media.
Earlier this month, at the United Conservative Party’s founding convention in Red Deer, a slate of pro-family, pro-parent policies were overwhelmingly passed by the membership.
The policies affirmed the family as the building block of a functional society and entrenched the rights of parents to direct the education of their children. Pretty reasonable stuff, hardly controversial at all.
But, according to the mainstream media, the policies - ones that made no mention of sexual preferences or gay straight alliance support groups - amounted to a bigoted promise by backward hillbillies to “out” gay kids and return Alberta to the proverbial “Lake of Fire”.
My guest was there in Red Deer and helped parents and United Conservative party members draft that popular slate of profoundly pro-family policies and she's got a lot to say about the fake news floating around about the policy convention.
Joining me tonight from Calgary is the Executive Director of Parents for Choice in Education, Donna Trimble. She’s going to tell us what really happened and what this victory for parents really means.
