Shell cancels $2B project MINUTES after Alberta NDP unveils "attack budget"; 1450 jobs wiped out

Ezra LevantRebel Commander

Yesterday the giant oil company Shell announced that they’re cancelling an oilsands megaproject in Alberta called Carmon Creek.

It’s a disaster for Shell — they’re writing off $2 billion dollars.

More importantly, 1,450 Canadian families are out of a job. Those were six-figure jobs, many of them held by First Nations workers.

And of course the 80,000 barrels of oil per day that Carmon Creek was going to produce is gone too. Even at forty dollars a barrel, that’s $3 million a day.

Obviously low world oil prices are part of the problem. But Shell is investing billions in other parts of the world.

So why did they announce they were killing the project yesterday, at 3:46 p.m. Alberta time?

Well it’s obvious. Because they were waiting to see what Alberta’s first NDP Budget looked like. It confirmed their worst fears. So they pulled the plug.

So — front page news? Are you kidding?

The Media Party doesn’t care. They share the NDP’s hate for the oilsands. The Edmonton Journal put it on page D1. Huh? D1? The Calgary Herald put this story on page D3! The Globe and Mail, Canada’s “national newspaper”, put it on B7.

No one cares.

But you can do something about it.

Tell Rachel Notley to stop her war on oil and gas jobs in Alberta.

You-suka-ma-dick : “Hopefully they shut down every oil operation in Alberta”. The only thing that needs to be shut down is YOU, you coward. You are afraid to use your real name because someone will know you and shut you up. Cowards hide behind false names especially filthy ones like yours.
Where do you live? In which province?

I feel like Albertans are punishing Ontario for electing Wynne. Please, please, we’re sorry. Make it stop.

Albertan’s as a whole have to get together and kick these dipshits out. Protest by the tens of thousands…on the steps of the legislature…the future of the province is at stake. These economic idiots will turn Alberta into something out of Mad Max.

Yousa You sound like the typical Brain washed Liberal or NDP Retard , you probably don’t have a Real job depending on some one else to provide for you . I bet you like turning up the thermostat in the winter (natural Gas) or driving you’re Car everyday that is run by (gas and oil ) . Maybe all the people in Canada who think we don’t need any of these natural resources should start walking or riding horses ? or maybe Freeze to death . I hope you have you’re Hand up to take in some of the New REFUGEES coming into Canada .

Hey Mark, it’s the NDP that are against pipelines to those ports too, so in the end, does it matter much which item one cites? Now, I want you to critique something from one of the MSM outlets. Let’s see if you can, or if you’re just another Lefty redneck with no objectivity. Here’s a fact for you and Suka-ma-dick. Canada is only responsible for 1.5% of global emissions, and if every Cdn died tomorrow it wouldn’t make a difference. Pls show me where in the MSM they’ve announced this statement of fact!

Hey You-suka-ma-dick. Who helped you figure out this childish handle? I don’t know what grade you’re in, but this site is for adults 18 and up, and NOT for rednecks and children. You need to “self-depopulate” in order to “save the planet”.

There are few industries in the world (except perhaps Islamic terrorists) that are more capable than the oil industry of taking a long-term outlook when planning for the future. The oil industry is quite well attuned to fluctuating oil prices knowing full well that as these prices go up and down, like a whore’s knickers, it’s the long run that pays dividends. However, there’s no greater disincentive for a business than a government that’s your enemy.

Would I put money in Alberta at this time? Not a chance.

Yousa Kameldick. FUCK YOU

Making up more things to post right? There’s not one item in the news release that there is anything to do with the budget. You are pitching conspiracy theories. Close the oil sands, get off the oil tit in the west. Diversify your economy. NDP government doesn’t control the global oil prices you right wing nutbar. Hopefully they shut down every oil operation in Alberta. That would definitely improve our country from an environmental perspective.

merely the opening act in a tragedy that is going to make Alberta of the NEP 1980’s look like a land of milk and honey by comparison. Wait till wonder boy trudeau and his band of leftist henchmen get in on the act federally for no other reason than they are vengeful spiteful liberal elitists and they are going to show those lowly Albertan’s just exactly where their place is.

Ezra, did you read the Shell statement? They were not waiting for the budget. They cited lack of access to Ports for the cancellation. (Actually the position was made by the board of directors quite sometime BEFORE the budget, but who cares about facts right? It was only ANNOUNCED they were canceling the project)

Fact of the matter is, canceling projects like this isn’t done at the drop of a hat. Months of cost/benefit analysis would have been done. It’s a coincidence it was canceled on the same day. But I guess it makes for a good click-bait headline.
