Imagine if Justin Trudeau's absurd gender quotas managed to find their way into a rock festival's lineup. Tickets would NOT sell.
Yet, Keith Harris, the chair of UK Music’s Diversity Taskforce (because that's something that just needed to exist apparently) says “people have got to open their minds” to diversity. I'd rather open up a beer to be honest.
This comes after, according to Heat Street, research compiled by the UK’s Press Association news agency said that of 321 acts booked for UK festivals, only 47 have a female member and 89 have a non-white member.
Harris added, “They (female acts) clearly have fans out there and if you put them on the bill they will clearly bring an audience and in some cases they will bring a new audience, because a lot of the male headliners have been round eight or nine times.”
No, I'm pretty sure that female rock bands have an audience and it's the same audience that already attends festivals. Listen, where there's rock or metal music by non-whites and women that is good, festival organizers book them. It just so happens that for the price of admission, festival goers want to see bands they like a lot – the majority of which happen to be white and male. It's not a 50/50 split. Not even 1/4. Not even 1/9. You see where I'm going with this?
Plus, it's already tough having to diversify the lineup in some capacity. Rock and metal have numerous sub-genres and it's impossible to please everyone. Have have seen the comments section on Facebook when a festival lineup is announced? No one is ever completely happy. When there's a festival dedicated just to melodic death metal, let me know. The point is, adding gender and race quotes to the mix would be a disaster.
And lets not forget who actually attends these things. Check out the albums for Download, one of the UK's largest rock festivals. Notice something about the crowd? White people. Shocking. And probably sickening if you're a member of BLM or a self-hating SJW cuck.
That's not to say there aren't minorities at metal or rock festivals, but rarely are they seen. I barely recall seeing any minorities at the 4+ times I've been to Heavy Montreal. Probably because rock/metal music isn't a big part of their lives. And maybe, just maybe, as such, there aren't very many rock bands featuring minorities because most aren't massive fans to begin with.
Anyway, this criticism has caused one festival, ironically named Bestival (yea right) to introduce gender quotas for its DJ stage next year, and will insist half of artists are female. They claim they have a “responsibility to help rebalance the male dominance of festival line-ups.” I guess a Tumblr blog just wasn't enough.
And while it may be easier for hip hop festivals to “balance” out genders and races, it becomes a hell of a lot harder and a lot more stupid to do the same for other festivals. Oh, and there's also that little factor of people not buying tickets if Metallica gets replaced by blue haired feminists who play banjos and whine about the patriarchy in song form.
Keep it simple. Book the best acts and forget about nonsense such as diversity.
