Nora Loreto is a self-described activist and writer based in Quebec City, but I think she might be moonlighting as a ghoul.
In the aftermath of the horrific accident involving the Humboldt Broncos hockey team, Loreto tweeted:
“I’m trying not to get cynical about what is a totally devastating tragedy but the maleness, the youthfulness and the whiteness of the victims are, of course, playing a significant role.”
A significant role in what? The tears, the heartbreak, the sorrow?
Is Loreto trying to suggest the groundswell of grief would be absent if the people on that doomed bus had been black and/or female?
I didn’t think anyone would dare politicize this tragedy, but should have known better.
And, even in the face of the backlash her remark generated, Loreto hasn’t reconsidered and in fact has doubled-down on despicable.
