SNL stole 'draw Mohammed' sketch from Canadian TV

Gavin McInnesArchive

Watch me place two TV comedy sketches side by side.

They're both about the risk of drawing Mohammed.

One skit aired on Saturday Night Live over the weekend.

The other was shown on CBC's This Hour Has 22 Minutes, but that was back in January.

Notice anything?

But wait! It gets worse...

SNL hasn’t been “funny” for nearly 2 decades. Sure, they get a few good ones in from time to time, but on a whole, SNL sucks! 22 minutes, and most other Canadian comedy shows are funny. So it’s no surprise that in order to get laughs, SNL stoops to plagiarizing skits. After all, it’s all they got left.

@ anonymous….so right!…both made a hash of a good idea.

However, there was a very important difference on the CBC that made the point far clearer…“I can’t draw this” was not in the US version…

Frankly the idea was so simplistic that I doubt it was plagiarized…many could have come up with this idea…

scary thing is that CBC is being bought out bye a american muslim company.

Just wait until SNL redo a whole season of skits based on “Little Mosque on the Prairie”.

Both POS shows that haven’t been funny in years.

I know what the problem with the names is. Terry, you just have made such an impression on everyone that your name is on the top of the tongue. :)

Sorry, I meant Fraser the second time. :) Blasted names anyway!

@ Terry – I was referring to the creative types as the capitalists, not the patrons. I am sure the creative types do not care where the money comes from.

Terry, I was not offended, just wanted to know if I can swing a donation. Doubt it if it is recurring, but one time …
commented 2015-05-12 16:07:20 -0400
Terry like you I’m a supporter of the REBEL. As far as I know this is a one time donation. I’m mentioning this just in case people read one item rather than all the stories. I’m not doing it to “T” people off but to encourage them to get involved.
commented 2015-05-12 14:59:02 -0400
Peter: actually, the creative types don’t really care whether their patrons are rich capitalist morons, bloodsucking socialist governments, kings, popes, or rich ancestors.
commented 2015-05-12 14:33:51 -0400
Fraser, you have mentioned this Alberta branch a few times. You never mention if this is a one time donation or a recurring donation. I already do a recurring donation.
commented 2015-05-12 14:31:16 -0400
Ahhhh, but Terry, you seem to be employing the dimwitted socialist view that socialism foster’s creativity. Capitalism by its very nature requires creativity. It is creative within itself to take an old idea that failed miserably (CBC skit) and turn it into a profit.

But even throughout history it has always been the capitalist that innovates. Socialism fosters complacency. Why work to create something new and innovative if you are going to get paid anyway. Whereas with Capitalism you either create something that will sell or starve. Quite a motivator.

I guess it’s my age but it wasn’t that funny when CBC did it and it wasn’t any more funny when SLN did it.

THEREBEL.MEDIA is going to open an Alberta office with the primary objective of reporting the news of the new NDP government. They have raised just over $30K to this venture, we need only 400 people to kick in $50 each to bring it to the goal of $50K Please join me and kick in $50 from your pay pal account. We have to keep an eye on this government because the media party won’t.

LOL. Public sector funding provides the foundation and original version, private sector builds on and creates revenue generation. Perfect illustration of the synergies generated through public/private sector collaboration.

Vlad Johnson – "See which one is better now? "

That all depends on whether you are a left wing/Liberal/NDP/socialist/communist or an intelligent person such as a right wing/Conservative/capitalist as to how you see which one is better. I suppose Terry will see the CBC version better, but the rest of us will see the SNL version better. :)
commented 2015-05-12 14:07:57 -0400
both could of done this so much better, but yet they decided to not break sharia law…
commented 2015-05-12 13:34:32 -0400
SNL’s version is way better and should get all the credit.

You see, SNL made money from this skit ( on a for profit, not tax payer burdening network) and, once again, Canadian taxpayers covered the cost of the CBC producing something that no one watches.

And that’s the difference in these two skits. See which one is better now?

OMG. The Rebel goes full metal recursive pomo! Gavin channels John Barth! Or Roland Barthes! Anyway, one of those weird smart guys!
Nice piece. Oh, and kudos to CBC for the initial joke.

Um, yeah… Is it just me, or is “satire” becoming more and more “unfunny”?
