South Africa: Witnessing compassion in the midst of misery

Katie HopkinsShillman Fellow

During my journey through South Africa, a nation so fraught with violence, I also glimpsed traces of compassion.

For instance, I met these kind, upbeat health outreach workers who teach women in slums (and me, as you’ll see!) how to use female condoms, to try to halt the spread of AIDS.

In this place seemingly without hope, they are proving someone cares.

Katie, I appreciate a little humour as much as the next guy; but this demonstration on the use of female condoms has got Freudian slippage written all over it. If you get my drift. To say it was inappropriate would be an understatement which as a Brit that is something you should be able to appreciate.
