I'm fresh off my trip to Burnaby British Columbia. I went there to be one of the few critical voices, and as a result, had the misfortune of feasting my eyes on the so-called Camp Cloud anti-pipeline slum that sits adjacent to a Kinder Morgan facility.
It's a place where the law doesn't exist.
People claiming to be “water keepers” are living in the ditch despite bylaws against it. They’re building permanent structures that reach up to the power lines despite building codes that say this is dangerous. They trespass on Kinder Morgan land despite restraining orders to keep them away. And they openly flout their drug use on Facebook.
While I was there, an eviction order came in from the City to remove the hovels and tents but it wasn't enforced and the Camp’s “residents” have vowed to continue their fight from their squalid location.
But long before I ever went to Burnaby Mountain, my friend Robbie Picard from Oil Sands Strong went there to tell us what it's really like.
Robbie joins me tonight to discuss the lawlessness at Camp Cloud now that we've both seen it for ourselves.
