Sue-Ann Levy vs Jerry Agar on Free Speech

Ezra LevantRebel Commander

On Friday's show, guest host Jerry Agar and Sun columnist Sue-Ann Levy debated the principles of free speech and whether it should apply to racist groups.

Jerry argued that racist groups like Black Lives Matter Toronto and Neo-Nazis do have abhorrent messages, but efforts to silence them could lead to shutting down anybody who voices unpopular opinions and that we already have methods of addressing those who call for violence.

Sue-Ann believes that groups espousing violence should not be permitted to host events on public land.

Violence is over rated. Anyone should be able to say anything and if you cuss in front of my wife I should be able to punch you in the face. Hard. No weapons. Man to man. But we started equating a justified, bloody nose with drive by’s so we now have to be hyper sensitive about language. Unless you’re BLM or Antifa of course, then you get to do both.

All speech for all people should be unrestricted.

We have laws already to deal with hate speech and speech to incite violence.

Preventing racist comments also pushes their ideology underground. I would prefer to know who they are!
