Suicides surge in Alberta: The high societal cost of NDP’s destructive economic policies

Sheila Gunn ReidRebel Host | The Gunn Show

There is a high social cost to bad economic policy.

Families and communities across the province are struggling through some of the worst times Alberta has seen in a generation.

There has been a doubling in EI claims and estimates say there are 100,000 people out of work.

Food bank usage has spiked all across the province. Some places like Fort McMurray are especially hard hit, seeing a 75% uptick in food bank demand. Homeless shelters, like Inn from the Cold in Calgary have seen a 130% increase in need for their services since the same time last year.

Property crime is up by 18% in Edmonton and violent crime is up 12% since last year.

And now there's a sudden surge in suicides in Alberta, jumping more than 30% in just the first half of the year. Statistics say that those suicide numbers often increase around the Holidays.

It's gotten so bad that the Wildrose Party called for an emergency debate in the legislature on the societal cost of the economy.

Let's see what the Notley government is doing to mitigate these horrible problems in Alberta. They're making everything that we grow or move cost more with a carbon tax - basically a PST on everything struggling Albertans buy. They're making food cost more by piling union style labor costs onto farming operations with Bill 6, they're scaring off oil and gas investment with a risky and unnecessary royalty review. They're making it harder for businesses to create jobs through a raise in the minimum wage.

They're stifling business growth with a raise in corporate income tax.

The NDP are doing nothing to mitigate what's happening in Alberta. In fact, it looks like they're doing everything they can to make the societal problems in Alberta worse. But that’s really what they want. Isn't it?

If the NDP have to collapse it all just to build it back up their way, well that’s just the cost of building their socialist utopia.

Alberta families are just collateral damage, a sacrifice on the altar of Al Gore and government control.

Motley just said she’s not backing down on Bill 6 and Albertans are ready to accept Syrian refugees. I have never seen anyone who could anger farmers and Hutterites like this,I’ve known them all my life. She’s gonna realize soon that Albertans don’t accept tyranny well. She’s gonna get hurt dead

Suicide, send the un-employed to B.C.; what’s the difference? It reduces the number of voters against the NDP next election through attrition…win-win for them!

I am really concerned for the amount of idiots that actually cast a ballot for this type of Government. They really do live among us. This is worse that what immigration will be setting lose on us.

None of this was in Motleys campaign and she hasn’t done anything she campaigned on. If I go down, I’m taking her with me

I’m sure it will be covered by our national press [sarcasm]

Think about the all of the increases just talked about and consider this: THIS NDP GOVERNMENT HAS ONLY BEEN IN POWER FOR 7 MONTHS. Do you really think Alberta can survive a full 4 years of this ndp scorched earth economics?

And I thought Alberta was RAT free.

Rachel is nothing but a cruel communist, who only cares about grinding AB into the dirt, to appease her evil ideology. It’s all about that narcissist Rachel and her cling-ons and her BFF union buddies. Anyone with a communist mentality doesn’t have empathy or compassion. She is a disgrace!

During he BSE crisis my daughters boyfriend lost the family farm – went out to the barn – shot himself.

Suicide – I no longer feel sad – I get angry.

How dare you do that to the family.

Call them or the hospital – and ask for help – hell I will drive all night to get to you myself.

A horrible part of life, is this type of death.
