SUNY Albany Calls Thanksgivings 'A Day Of Mourning'

Rebel Staff

Thursday was Thanksgiving, a holiday in which American's celebrate the anniversary of when the Pilgrims first landed on American soil in 1620. Though the holiday is a wonderful day in which families can get together and have a good meal, progressives try to turn it into a symbol of evil, as they believe it celebrates the destruction of Native Americans.

This outrage reared it's ugly head again when an event at SUNY Albany called Thanksgiving a "day of mourning."

A peer education program at SUNY Albany recently held a meeting to discuss how Thanksgiving is allegedly a commemoration of mass murder.

Hosted by the C.H.A.R.G.E. Peer Education Program, posters originally advertised the meeting as “NO THANKS GIVING: Do you know what you are celebrating this Thanksgiving?”

The name of the event was subsequently changed to “Thanks/Friends Giving,” however, after someone complained about the original name.

“We simply wanted to shed light on the Native American experience, and where they were during this time in history,” C.H.A.R.G.E. Director Liery Santos told Campus Reform. “We know the Native Americans were already occupying this part of the world, but now live in reservations. The conditions in these reservations are awful, considering Native Americans were already here.”

The event took place Tuesday night and was sparsely attended. Bibi Chaterateach, a senior at SUNY Albany and C.H.A.R.G.E. member, ran the meeting, which she said was "based on looking at Thanksgiving through the Native American perspective."

Although Thanksgiving takes on different meanings for different groups, she noted that for Native Americans, "Thanksgiving is a day of mourning."

First Columbus Day is "offensive," now it's Thanksgiving. The next thing you know, they'll try to ban the Fourth of July because to progressives, the Founding Fathers were all slave-drivers.

It's sad that people can't even celebrate their own country now without being accused of being politically incorrect. No person alive today is responsible for what their ancestors did, so to make modern Americans feel guilty about something that Pilgrims did hundreds of years ago is laughable.

Once again, the left is taking something that is supposed to be positive and fun and spinning it in a negative way. No joy is found for them in kicking back and having fun with their families, instead they have to find something "offensive" about absolutely everything. They won't be satisfied until they have completely wiped out American history and turned us into a humorless, politically correct society.

I feel sorry for these ingrates…their lives revolve around victim hood and self pity…perpetual victims…self induced sadness, envy, jealousy, sloth and greed. Get a life. The poorest soul living with Thanks is far richer than these who dwell in the darkness of anger and hate funded by White men, still.

The history they forgot is that the reason the SUNY were there is because they drove other tribes out by murder and mayhem…so many aboriginals were killed, enslaved and otherwise destroyed by their fellows from other tribes…they know their history but choose to blame only the later immigrants. Memories are short. We also know the violent history of central and south American peoples who used those of other tribes for ritual sacrifices and slaves…You can fool a lot of the people a lot of the time because of their laziness in studying history…but this doesn’t fool me…I have learned that, in the historical perspective, the White Invaders to North America were extremely enlightened and far more tolerant than any group on earth( although not in any way perfect, only working toward perfection in a more advanced way than any other peoples)…in fact they largely rejected slavery and eventually fought to stop it…something never heard about elsewhere on earth…all peoples until then held slaves…Muslims, Jews, and every other group. The slave trade in Africa depended on black slave traders to bring the slaves to the coast for purchase by the white and Muslim slavers…so quit with the revisionism…it is ignorance.

Domestic Communists are still spewing this revisionist Luddite drivel about civilizational development – Communist critical theory dictates they chant the mantra that all colonization was negative/oppressive – this theory ignores the social/cultural/civilizational development of Europe which was accelerated after Roman colonization – much like indigenous populations in the new world who went from wheel-less neolithic culture to iron age industrial culture in a generation and now their decedents live better, longer and are more plentiful than in pre-columbian time.

Obviously no one is paying attention to these warped misanthropic axe-grinders because millions more Americans are celebrating this thanksgiving than last, just as million more American’s rejected the neo-commuist Alinsky negativity of Hillary.

Founding Fathers! How sexist! Just wait for that meme to hit the airwaves.

The natives were, well, waring with each other. Slavery was common. Wiping out competitive tribes was common. Women taken as prizes was common.

Why were males called “warriors”? Because they were warriors fighting with other tribes or defending their tribe from attack.

The noble warrior is depicted on his horse. The modern horse was introduced into North America by the Spanish. That increased their ability to slaughter more buffalo than before.

Tribes would strip resources from an area and then move on to another, yet they are held up to be what we should emulate as respectful of the land.

Women’s rights? Women had rights? Democracy? You mean tribal leaders who made all decisions and who selected the next leader and not by public vote.

The situation they are in today? Many tribes have turned the funding received by the government (yet demanding to be considered independent governments) and created industry or business that bring in wealth. Other tribes take the funding and the funds disappear into the ether, sometimes called the Chiefs slush fund.

Lets not forget that what happed 150 years to 200 years ago was how the world worked in just about any and every part of the world. Actually, how the world always worked through history. A stronger or more advanced society coming in and taking over another less advanced or less strong area. Native Indians did it. Europeans did it. Tribes in Africa did it. China they did it. Russia did it. Islam did it. The Incas were famous for it. Polynesians did it. The aboriginal of Australia apparently didn’t do it.

So to the SJW PCs out there, what exactly if your point if you have one other than to bitch?

… Sorry Maurice, only illegal aliens get such treatment.

Two of our local warriors are celebrating Thanksgiving by blocking the entrance to Pinery Provincial Park in defiance of their bands settlement with the Government. Of course the OPP are standing by and the Ontario government is engaged in “peaceful talks” to resolve the issue with the two dissidents.
It’s the same issue with BLM taking over the so called Toronto Pride Parade and forcing the Toronto Police out of schools.
Self declared micro-minorities rule the day when such a small number can have such sway over the vast majority and the rule of law.
The welfare system is also governed by laws. Maybe society should just break the law too and not send out the cheques.

Maurice Potvin it confuses me as well, i would not actually care so much if they did not feel the need to impose their sad existence on others. And that goes for any race ,color , or creed who chooses to live like that.

“Good One” Maurice!… Sardonic humour always wins the day…

No, Iain, I don’t. I’d love to have that cabin, but it would have be catered.

…Maurice: Good post. But hey, you wouldn’t have an axe, a stove, or a cabin.

Why anyone would choose to be perpetually unhappy and miserable is beyond me. The key to happiness…. gratitude, a.k.a. Thanksgiving. The key to perpetual unhappiness and misery…. an attitude of victim-hood and entitlement. It’s not complicated at all, it’s actually that simple. (I’m Metis, by the way, but I’m still thankful that I don’t have chop firewood to heat a small cabin somewhere in the vast northern wilderness)

Haters hate, and, do their best to revise history to suit what they are embracing in the moment.
Drew, well said.

Can useful idiots in the west get it through their skulls that natives were not purely innocent and benevolent living in harmony with nature before Europeans showed up. There was abuse of nature and war and even genocide in those days as well. SO SPARE ME THE BS!

Guess this is the result when you don’t acknowledge God for your blessings.

Yep…I am sure the modern day Indian regrets no longer being able to live without technology through the centuries. No metallurgy, no horses, no firearms, no ATV’s for the 18th to 21st century hunting. No healthcare, no commercial grain, no dairy, no livestock, no casinos, no modern housing, etc. unrelated to hunter/gathering. For sure every Indian, particularly the grand chiefs, want to go back to the Indian lifestyle of 1600.

Funny that no European or Asian, excepting muslims, wants to go back to the lifestyle of 1600, or even 1999.

… Aboriginals are encouraged to be ungrateful, angry, entitled, prejudiced, and apathetic. Exactly the opposite of how people should be raised.
