Three teenagers have been arrested and another is being sought by Idaho police after they set their principal's house on fire with him and his family inside.
According to the NY Post, Principal Mark Heleker and his wife were woken up by their adult daughter who just arrived home from dog walking. She saw flames coming from the home's garage.
While the three escaped their home, their cars, furniture and belongings were destroyed.
Just hours later, Heleker's 22-year-old son noticed suspicious comments being made on social media about the fire.
Police reviewed statements on Facebook pages and Snapchat, determining that three high school students and one eighth-grader were involved.
Payette Police Chief Mark Clark said that two of the high school students and the eighth-grader were arrested on felony arson charges. A fourth teen is being sought.
Preceding the fire, the teens broke into vehicles and vandalized property.
“About 2 miles down the road, they looked back to see the house, which is on a hill, fully engulfed, but made no attempt to call 911 or alert the family. These people could have easily died in the fire,” Mark Clark said.
