David Suzuki is taking aim at small pro fossil fuel organizations.
In a recent op-ed for The Straight, Suzuki railed against Canada Action, Ethical Oil, Resource Works, the International Climate Science Coalition, Friends of Science, and the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, calling into question their funding sources.
Suzuki accuses them of being “phony’ and “astroturfed,” surmising that these grassroots groups are the manufactured political arms of dreaded “big oil” saying they must be stopped - yanked out by the roots!
This is a strange and hypocritical position to take given that the Suzuki Foundation has a strong financial relationship with foreign-funded, radical environmental organizations like the Wilberforce Foundation and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund.
According to independent researcher, Vivian Krause, as of 2012 Suzuki’s Foundation had already received $13M from foreign sources, dwarfing the meagre, mostly membership funded $150,000 annual budget at Friends of Science.
But despite their tiny footprint, Friends of Science has Suzuki afraid. Good.
Joining me tonight to discuss what it's like to become one of the latest targets of Suzuki’s angst is Michelle Stirling from Friends of Science.
