The Conservatives lost -- and here's who had it coming

Joshua LiebleinRebel Blogger

Now that we’re done losing the election I said we were going to lose, it’s time for all the usual suspects, all the enablers of this failed effort to take their lumps in turn.

The following groups of people have had it coming:

The “The Longer He’s Prime Minister” people
Yeah, you. The incrementalists. The guys who thought you could make Harper attractive by making him non-threatening, having him play the Beatles on the piano and having him pose with Gretzky and Nickelback. Sorry. Voters tolerated Harper until the more attractive option tossed its shiny hair. They never warmed up to the guy no matter how hard you tryhards tried hard.

The “fiscal conservatives”
After this humiliation, I don’t want to hear the word “taxes” or “deficit” as the frontispiece of a conservative political campaign in this country ever again. Trudeau ran on deficits, and he WON on deficits. The public doesn’t give a darn about how many billions the debt or deficit is. This has been proven over and over and yet low-tax and deficit-shrinking messaging hangs around like a vestigial organ because the cowards who design campaigns in this country have to pacify all the conservative groups who loathe each other more than they love winning somehow.

Do I love me a tax cut? Sure do. But the voters are done with it. Find another meme and move on.

The Immigration Hawks
Oh, you guys absolutely kill me. For years you told me there was a silent majority of people who wanted a culture war in this country, and when you got your shot this time around you blew it. When the refugee issue, and then the niqab issue, came up, you hid in your little safe zones and waited for everyone else to get excited. Well, they didn’t. Now the conservative brain trust will never, ever take another chance like that again because they’ll be too traumatized to do it next time around. Speaking of which….

Whoever is boiling the loss down to one gaffe which will NEVER BE REPEATED AGAIN
I’ve seen the PC Party of Ontario faithful do this after every election and it pretty much guarantees they’ll lose the next one as soon as they do it. They get stuck on not doing stuff as opposed to doing stuff.

You want to know why we lost this election, boys and girls? Because Trudeau and Wynne campaigned, and as soon as conservatives saw that they vanished up their own behinds instead of campaigning. The same thing happened with Obama in 2008, and yet you fools still dutifully marched off the cliff because Jenni Byrne told you to.

Pollsters, pundits, and general riffraff who covered this clusterkludge
I cannot stress enough how obvious it was that it was never a horserace, that the “balance theory” in Ontario never held water, that Quebec was never in play so long as everywhere else wasn’t, and there was no “Big Shift.” The Laurentian Consensus threw the switch and the machinery went into motion. Last two elections, they didn’t. The talking heads ignored this fact and told fairy tales on TV which you all believed despite complaining ad nauseam about the biased MSM.

Yes, me. Because here is how I am able to make my predictions: Always, always bet on Canadians going for the most obvious, safest, and least bold choice. And, fool that I am, I always retain a small sliver of hope that this time, this time, we’re not going to take our cues from the Media Party and actually do something radical. But we never do.

I want to know what the hell he was thinking leaving all those Senate vacancies.

Jim Small – and easily bought and paid for! When you lack integrity, like the spanking new PM, just watch how fast the country falls.

Good post. I know it’s not the way that you wanted things to go, but clearly people wanted a change and I think Harper/The Conservative Party were completely out of touch with Canadians.

Incrementalists. Exactly. Harper must feel like a fool for sacrificing his principles for a strategy that did not work out. If Trudeau gets Proportional Representation, as he says he wants, it’s all over for conservatives. We will never get 50% of the vote, we will have Liberal and NDP coalitions for life.
