Action star Matt Damon, who has made millions starring in films with guns, wants to ban yours.
According to Breitbart, the star of action films such as The Departed, The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Ultimatum, and Jason Bourne wants an Australia-style gun ban in the United States.
While promoting his latest film in Sydney, Australia, Damon praised Australia's gun ban, which was introduced in the 1990s.
“You guys did it here in one fell swoop and I wish that could happen in my country, but it’s such a personal issue for people that we cannot talk about it sensibly. We just can’t,” the A-list celebrity said.
He then rambled on about mass shootings saying, “Obviously mass shootings aren’t going to do it. There have been so many of them at this point. Sandy Hook, when those children were murdered, if that didn’t do it, you know, I just don’t know. Maybe we just need to evolve further before we can have that conversation, I don’t know.”
Evolve further? Clearly Damon isn't familiar with what gun violence in the United States is really like, with red states having far less gun crime.
He went on to call Australia's ban "sensible," but admits that he won't see any such move to ban firearms in his lifetime.
Damon is the latest hypocritical celebrity to call for a ban on guns while relying on them for his action films to make money. We previously called out Liam Neeson for his views on guns.
So, will Matt Damon donate all the money he has made as a result of guns to charity? We didn't think so.
