The Rebel's new editorial plan

Ezra LevantRebel Commander

On last night's show, The Rebel's Managing Producer Hannah Vanderkooy joined me to discuss our future editorial plans.

The mainstream media, Trudeau government, Notley government, and political establishment are trying to end The Rebel. They're doing it because we've reported on issues that even Conservative politicians are too afraid to touch.

The Rebel has exposed Canada's ongoing border crisis, waste in federal and provincial governments, the plight of Iraqi Christians, and other issues ignored by the rest of Canada's media.

WATCH our video to hear our plans for hiring a managing editor and new journalists.

We are Canada's last source of conservative media, to help us please go to StandWithTheRebel.com

“Countries that do classify the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organisation are, Russia, Syria, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.”

Saudi Arabia is paying $110 billion to buy weapons from the US.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/05/20/trump-arrives-to-saudi-arabia-for-his-first-international-trip-since-taking-office.html

The 345 reported executions between 2007 and 2010 in Saudi Arabia were all carried out by public beheading.

https://www.state.gov/j/drl/rls/hrrpt/2010/nea/154472.htm

Trump must also be a terrorist then as he supports Saudi Arabia, which does not classify the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization, one of the organizations that receives funding from Halal Certification agencies.

“Obviously, you are unaware of Halal Certification agencies funneling money to terrorist groups. Look it up!”

Maybe you should look this up!

“The convictions of Nasser Abuali, Hussein Abuali, and Rabi Ahmed provide context for the government’s use of the term “terrorism-related.” An informant told
the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) that the trio tried to purchase a rocket-propelled grenade launcher, but the FBI found no evidence supporting the accusation. The three individuals were instead charged with receiving
two truckloads of stolen cereal and convicted.”

Great suggestion Wanda! I would be interested in the growing conflict management industry within the post-secondary education system. If there are so few resolutions, why is so much money being dumped into this?!! Poor job performance/outcomes should not be maintained or expanded.

I would like to see an in-depth investigation into the Halal Certification scam in Canada.

Another idea that I think might assist The Rebel is to start delving in-depth into dysfunctional bureaucracy. While many people see this as a source of occasional annoyance in their lives the problems it creates run much deeper and it’s not just the waste, inefficiency and corruption (although those are significant by-products). Dysfunctional bureaucracy by its very nature grows and bloats and does a lot of insidious things to keep on growing.

As an example, Jordan Peterson recently commented about the growth of conflict on university campuses and how this is effecting the quality of education as well as the exercise of fundamental freedoms. Well, the bureaucracy has a vested interest in maintaining and even expanding on campus conflict. The more conflict, the more opportunities to grow the bureaucracy. Over the past decade or so there has been an explosion in the number conflict “offices” that have sprung up in the higher ed sector who purpose is to “manage conflict”. These offices are home to a growing number of highly paid conflict resolution advisors, complaint investigators, counsellors, intake officers, and their entourage of assistants, coordinators, managers and other functionaries. Curiously the conflicts never get resolved, instead they grow and multiply. The waste of our resources is vast and what we get for our money is …more discord, more conflict, more distractions.

Ezra Levant and the like won’t tell you what Kevin Johnston said in one of his Freedom Report videos:

“It is time for us to take our masculinity back and beat the living hell out of these [Muslims]. Pin them down on the ground, and beat them until they pass out. And when they’re passed out, you beat them further; and when they’re on the ground passed out, kick them, break a kneecap, break an elbow, press their hands backwards turn their wrists sideways, start breaking these guys down.”

Johnston was recently charged under Section 319(2) of the Criminal Code because he is promoting hatred and advocating violence, NOT because he is criticizing Islam.

Honestly it’s painful to see virtually every comment thread on this site hijacked by some idiot with multiple identities posting the same old garbage. Until it’s possible to delete (and I hope this happens), people should just ignore this fool and not engage with “it”. Rather than responding to its posts just make like they’re not there. If you must say something, “troll alert” or “troll begone” are helpful.

Returning to the subject of this thread, it’s good to see a variety of new stories over the past few days. There’s a whole world of possibilities for stories about those tent cities that are being set up for the border jumpers. Mr. Selfie seems to be talking tough (well tough for him anyway) about “it’s not so easy to get into Canada” but I’ve read that welfare cheques are being dished up already. It would be cool to get inside one of these places to see what’s up.

Ezra does not need to hire some more managing editors. He just needs to make sure he is not hiring reporters that will make the rebel look bad. Just add an extra line in the want ad for a rebel reporter.

“Must not attend a neo nazi podcast and be sympathetic to white nationalists.”

That is all that Ezra needs.

Ezra, I’m really pleased to see the steps you’re taking to chart the course for the next chapter in the life of The Rebel. All organizations evolve or devolve depending on how their leaders respond to unexpected challenges. It’s quite remarkable how The Rebel has grown and gained momentum over the course of 4 years. I’ve admired your energy and resilience. You’ve got a remarkable sense of what “being the media” is about in the 21st century. It’s been sort of fun reading the vitriol that’s been heaped on you by the National Pest and MacLame’s. They wouldn’t be running up that kind of word count if they thought The Rebel was dead.

Along with many of the other contributors to this thread, I have some suggestions:

1. Focus on Canada. It’s interesting learning about common ground that we Rebels share with people in other countries but The Rebel is a Canadian site with a mainly Canadian constituency. Work on more content from across the country, particularly from the leftlib nirvana, Ontario.
2. Serve the meat; focus on those the stories that get people’s attention, complicate their lives and trouble their sleep: public sector dysfunction, sharia-creep, corrupt politicians, erosion of our freedoms, feature some stories about real people and their experiences with the foregoing. Why is Jordan Peterson so wildly popular with Rebels? What he talks about resonates with us.
3. Rebels gotta feel good too. Balance the bad with some good. It can be demoralizing hearing about everything that’s wrong all the time. Rebels have good news to share as well. Let’s have some stories from people who have overcome, persevered, achieved, or are just moving their own personal rocks gradually up the hill. How about a Rebel’s Guide to Surviving and Thriving?
4. Don’t over-rely on shit-show journalism. The reporter in the middle of the riot or getting in the faces of some raving antifas is interesting to watch but that stuff gets old pretty fast and everybody else is doing it. Balance that out with some more seasoned, insightful reporting and commentary.
5. Don’t go overboard on the Donald. The jury’s still out on him among many Rebels and prospective Rebels. If that story doesn’t end well, you don’t want to chase him down the crapper.
6. Consider adding written commentary to the site. Boomer Rebels like to read stuff and I will bet we are a large part of the community.
7. To keeps costs in line, consider accepting and publishing free contributions from Rebel community members on an ad hoc basis.
8. Trolls begone. Consider a moderated discussion forum. The current comments sections are overrun by trolls or possible by a troll.
9. Continue holding Rebel get-togethers but consider doing this at Canadian locations. I appreciated getting the cruise invites but, honestly, I’m just not a cruise person. The time away and expense may have been a disincentive for many Rebels as well. There are plenty of excellent locations all over our awesome country that may draw a larger more diverse mix of Rebels.

I’m confident that The Rebel will live long and prosper.

You’re going to need more editors, and you’re going to have to start taking a more corporate approach to hiring. No more feel good hires, always check references! As far as on-air representation; have you had any interest in more regional reporting like you already have from BC, Alberta, and Quebec? Is there no intrepid potentially popular right wing personality from the maritimes you could give a mike with Rebel flashing to? Not counting Menzies you don’t really have a strictly Ontario desk, nor Sask/Man, nor the north. The potential for expansion past that is tremendous, but maybe put our domestic news in front. Also, maybe avoid the tabloid rep by having a section or story daily that’s good news, something positive to contrast with the fire alarm mood that most of the stories seem to have. Keep spreadin’ the love, man!

Ezra
You’ve had a rough week and I appreciate your efforts at humility, it’s the mark of competent leadership. I would ask however that you lose the moniker of Rebel Commander. It may have worked when you were eight people in your living room but it sounds a bit juvenile. Digital Publisher & Chief Editor works better in my opinion. You have started something that has great potential, your staff should know that there are few jobs in journalism where one can make a difference and speak truth to power. I’m sorry to see Gavin go, his satire was healthy and biting. It had a role but too many of your departing journalist with Brian the exception made The Rebel into their private sandbox. I think the quality of your mission should aspire to that of the National Review. It has all the potential to do so with an Editor charged with safeguarding your brand, a Chief of Open Sourced Research with skill in big data semantic mining and a hard ass COO.
Forget about CPC’s Sheri, he’s a historical bookmark that doesn’t know it. Temper some of your more less reasonable stances, get right of center on social and economic (which is where we’ll paid Mellennial’s travel), follow up on news that MSM is too lazy to revisit, use research to uncover maleficence regardless of political stripe, lobby for term limits at Provincial and Municipal levels where the NDP apparatchik’s live and torment our daily lives….and most importantly, champion the
plight of rural Canadian’s who have all but been forgotten by the limousine Liberals that thrive on the public purse and live south of Bloor in Toronto.
