There has been a concerted effort by the Left to purge “Western Civilization” curricula from our institutions of higher learning and sadly, it's been successful.
Back in the 1980s, with a battle cry of "Hey, hey, ho, ho, Western culture's got to go," Jesse Jackson led Stanford University students who were protesting the school's longstanding Western Civilization core requirement, arguing that these courses were "racist."
To the Left, the greats like Shakespeare, Aristotle, Machiavelli, Locke and countless others are nothing more than "dead white males" who exemplify colonialism, classism, and white supremacy.
So now, "Western Civ" requirements have been replaced with "diversity courses." In fact, today you can earn a degree without ever having read a single work of Greek, Enlightenment or other Western philosophy.
One look at the Social Justice Warriors on college campuses perfectly illustrates the consequences of this mis-education.
If you think the West's obsession with multiculturalism is bad now, just wait until this next generation of students comes up in the world. They will, after all, be our future leaders.
And that is a very scary thought.
Thankfully, there are some very bright students out there pushing for the reinstatement of "Western Civ" as a core requirement. Tonight, we'll talk with one those students: Elliot Kaufman, student and news editor of "The Stanford Review."
We'll also chat with Dr. Herb London, President of the London Center for Policy Research, and professor emeritus and the former John M. Olin Professor of Humanities at NYU. He witnessed the dismantling of "Western Civ" in colleges and universities at the very beginning and joins us to explain where things stand today.
