This Week in History: Seneca Falls feminist convention (1848)

John RobsonArchive

The “Declaration of Sentiments” coming out of the 1848 Seneca Falls convention on women’s rights shows the United States in a positive if peculiar light as an extremely left- and right-wing place including a dedication to social justice driven by Christianity.

And it highlights the unresolved tension between “equality” feminism of the 1848 and 1960s variety and the “transformative” version of 1898 and possibly today.
