1. French jihadists in Syria may be allowed home, Paris says
France on Tuesday opened the door to repatriating more than a hundred jihadists being held in Syria, in a marked change in stance brought about by the planned withdrawal of US troops from the country.
Paris is worried that French prisoners held by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) could be released or escape after US President Donald Trump announced plans last month to pull American forces out of Syria.
Until now, French officials had insisted the fighters and their wives must be prosecuted and jailed locally, while offering to take back the children of jihadists and place them with relatives in France.
"Given the development of the military situation in northeast Syria, the American decisions, and to ensure the security of the French people, we are examining all options to avoid the escape and scattering of these potentially dangerous individuals," the French foreign ministry said in a statement.
"If the forces who are guarding the French fighters took the decision to expel them to France they would be immediately placed in the hands of the law," it added.
A French security source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told AFP that 130 people could be repatriated, confirming a figure reported by the BFM news channel, which said the group included men and women.

2. REPORT: Liberal MP caught saying the higher carbon tax is “the faster people will actually may change behaviour”
Justin Trudeau and the Liberals recently voted against a motion that called on them to reject more tax hikes.
And now, a Liberal MP has accidentally explained that the Liberals see the carbon tax as about manipulating and changing behaviour.
It’s social engineering and an obsession with control. Instead of letting Canadians make our own choices, the Trudeau Liberals want to dictate everything.
CPC leader Andrew Scheer Tweets:
This Liberal MP let slip Justin Trudeau’s post-election plan for the carbon tax: it will go up. pic.twitter.com/UMs9qXVUsa— Andrew Scheer (@AndrewScheer) January 30, 2019
Life is already expensive enough for Canadians, but instead of helping, Justin Trudeau is making it worse. Make no mistake: if Justin Trudeau wins in October, his Carbon Tax will only go up. Canada's Conservatives are fighting to make life more affordable, so you can get ahead. pic.twitter.com/lJ5GYNlO9B— Andrew Scheer (@AndrewScheer) January 30, 2019
3. A cure for cancer? Israeli scientists say they think they have found one
A small team of Israeli scientists think they might have found the first complete cure for cancer.
“We believe we will offer in a year’s time a complete cure for cancer,” said Dan Aridor, of a new treatment being developed by his company, Accelerated Evolution Biotechnologies Ltd. (AEBi), which was founded in 2000 in the ITEK incubator in the Weizmann Science Park. AEBi developed the SoAP platform, which provides functional leads to very difficult targets.
“Our cancer cure will be effective from day one, will last a duration of a few weeks and will have no or minimal side-effects at a much lower cost than most other treatments on the market,” Aridor said. “Our solution will be both generic and personal.”
4. UK: Muslim councillor “overstepped the mark” in public apology to school “promoting homosexuality”
A councillor who stated “children are too young” to learn about homosexuality and same-sex marriages in the classroom has publicly apologised, and said: “I overstepped the mark.”
Mohammed Idrees, a Labour councillor who represents Alum Rock in Birmingham, initially called for peace talks between protesting Muslim parents and a primary school supporting LGBT and equality.
Last week, BirminghamLive reported how an angry group of parents protested outside Parkfield Community School - a school which runs a piloted curriculum based on No Outsiders.
The programme is run alongside sex and relationship (SRE) lessons and has, in recent weeks, caused outrage among some Muslim parents - so much so that a handful decided to pull their children out from school until lessons are scrapped or drastically changed.
On Saturday, Coun Idrees - a proud Muslim - revealed how he has been inundated with e-mails from furious parents who are against such teachings as homosexuality is strictly forbidden in Islam.

6. These 9 things are “officially Islamophobic” after UK councils adopt new definition
COUNCILS across the UK are starting to adopt an agreed list of examples of Islamophobia.
However, so far, just three local authorities have adopted the APPG (All-Party Parliamentary Group) definition of Islamophobia. No councils in Lancashire have adopted the definition as yet.
Acts of Islamophobia from the list include accusing Muslim citizens of being more loyal to their countries of origin than to Britain, as well as accusing Muslims as a group of being responsible for real or imagined wrongdoing committed by a single Muslim person.

10. Rashida Tlaib stays quiet on top ally who spread anti-semitic conspiracy theories
Democratic Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib has declined to address the fact that one of her top campaign allies repeatedly promoted anti-Semitic conspiracy theories.
A key fundraiser for Tlaib, Maher Abdel-qader, repeatedly promoted anti-Semitic conspiracy theories, an investigation by The Daily Caller News Foundation revealed Monday.
Two days after TheDCNF’s report, Tlaib has continued to remain silent on the matter, even as other Democrats have faced questions about her ties to anti-Semitism. Her office declined to return multiple requests for comment.
Tlaib is a member of the Facebook group “Palestinian American Congress,” where members have repeatedly demonized Jews. The group’s founder, Abdel-qader, was a key fundraiser for Tlaib in 2018 and organized campaign events for her around the country.
