8. Ottawa: Police are investigating the double killings of Abdullah Al-Shammari, 28, and an as-yet-unidentified man, as well as the wounding of Al-Shammari’s older brother Talal, 31
The veteran officer said the string of violence in one day shows the city is “not what it used to be.”
“We had a record number of homicides in the city last year, and I’m not going to say this is a trend, but the number of shootings in the city and a day like this is, quite frankly, horrific,” he said.
The victims are known to police, who continue to piece together what transpired in the early morning hours Monday that led to multiple shootings.
Abdullah had been charged with numerous offences dating back to 2008, including intimidation, robbery and possession of stolen goods, but the bulk of the charges had been withdrawn.
In 2010, RCMP arrested Abdullah, then 21, after a police chase on what was then called the Ottawa River Parkway.
Abdullah was charged with fleeing police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, and driving without insurance. He also pleaded guilty to a weapons violation in Quebec in 2012.

Executioners can be seen walking up slowly behind their targets before firing a spray of bullets from what look like semi-automatic assault rifles into the backs of their heads before another line of killers repeat the sequence.
It comes amid tensions between jihadists and Libyan forces in Benghazi after strongman Khalifa Haftar - a former soldier under the Gaddafi regime who has risen through the ranks to commander of the Libyan National Army - declared victory in the eastern city.
